Pie Iron cooking

We going with grandkids and great grandkids this week. We found a pie iron and remembered making pies many years ago. Any other suggestions?

I started searching pie iron cooking, and it is amazing all you can come up with. One of our favorite lunchtime sandwiches - the reuben . With the new white-whole wheat breads, it will make sandwiches and pies a little better. Also did not realize that you could use tortillas as wraps. Tacos. pizzas, cinnamon bread and more

Pizza sauce, chopped veggies and cheese on bread (buttered on the outside so it doesn't burn) make GREAT pie-iron pizzas!
Use cinnamon raisin toast and apple pie filling - yummo!
Of course, grilled cheese is delicious by the campfire!
I'm betting you could do a mean fried peanut butter with banana sammich like Elvis too!
Best of luck - the kids are gonna love you!

Love pie irons! Our standards are pie filling on white bread and pizza filled bread. Last couple trips we've really enjoyed smores in the pie irons --- cinnamon grahms, chocolate, mm all warm & toasty! And our newest is lining the iron with a crescent roll and fill with taco fillings. Yum.

We have a panini press pie iron, too, which we have used for sandwiches as well as 2 chicken breasts or boneless pork chops at a time.

The waffle pie irons also make terrific waffles.

Right now, it is so frickin hot that the idea of having a campfire much less cooking anything over an open fire melts me just to think about it.

Kids don't care, though, so go for it and have a great time!

A really great pie iron sandwich - sliced ham, brie and a tablespoon of raspberry preserves.
Or - for breakfast - we put an egg and proscuitto or ham with some parmesan or jack cheese (my husband adds an ortega chili and pepper jack).

Must it be cast iron or are aluminum irons okay? Shenim made awesome fruit pies (preserves in buttered bread) and topped them with ice cream at the rally! YUMMMM We have yet to duplicate them and the pizza snacks sound divine!

I prefer cast iron anything---the heat is so much more even.
