King Arthur Flour wheat bread recipe

I saw this recipe on the side of a bag of King Arthur wheat flour. I was wondering if anyone has tried it. I like how it looks since it appears not to need excessive kneading or a second rise.
  • I cup lukewarm water
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup melted butter or vegetable oil (1 3/4 ounces)
  • 3 tablespoons molasses or maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup nonfat dry milk
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Grease bread pan
Combine ingredients, beat vigorously for 3 minutes.
Scoop dough into prepared pan.
Cover pan with lightly greased plastic wrap- allow to rise for 90 minutes.
Bake in preheated oven (350) for about 30-35 minutes tenting it with aluminum foil after 15 minutes.
Cool completely before slicing (always the hardest part for me)

Sounds good. You don't knead to need it because it's so sticky is unkneadable.
Don't know why the orange juice, that might be what makes the protein so sticky.

In another one of their recipes they use OJ and give the explanation that it cuts some of the bitterness from the whole grains. The same recipe uses potato flakes which I find intriguing.

You can never go wrong with the King Arthur recipes! I haven't tried that one but I like their recipes (and products) very much.

Here's a very easy recipe that I love! And it uses a cast iron pan which I know many of you have. DELICIOUS!!!!

That gives you a softer bread, not unlike the rolls that you get a the various steak houses. Sounds like a great recipe, I might have to give that one a try.

The potato flakes? I think I will skip that. I like a hearty bread.

My better half uses that recipe. She said she uses honey instead of molasses and vegetable oil not butter. She said to bake a tad longer than 40 min. It is great.

I use that recipe a lot. My only change is that I let the dough sit for 3 hours at room temperatue, then refrigerate over night..then form a ball, rest at room temp for 20 minutes and bake in my dutch oven 30 minutes covered and 15 uncovered. It is crusty on the outside and smooth on the inside!
