How do you make toast ????

Hi, while traveling I find it difficult do one of the simplest of tasks that we do at home all the time. Making toast. Short of taking the toastmaster along I just have not figured a good method. Actually I think the toaster draws too much current to make it worthwhile and we're not always hooked to 110v anyhow. In a previous life when pop-up camping we had a small device that sat on the propane burner and held 4 pcs. of bread upright and toasted. Worked fairly well. Was compact and easy to store. Don't have it any more.

So, How do you do it ???? I'm sure I'm missing something here. Feel free to slap be upside the head anytime. I miss my toasted muffins with my eggs. I did try it in the oven, eh. Better than nothing. But it seems a waste to heat the oven for toast.

Thanx for any help,
Roger from NJ

The stove top toaster that you describe is what i used today on my propane stove. I had full hookup and could have used my toaster oven but the stovetop unit seems easier.
It also works when you aren't on full hookups. What could be easier?
It is also a very lightweight piece of equipment. And when it is really hot in the summer you can use it on a propane stove outside.

you can also brown your toast in a skillet. or just put on the grates on the propane stove and turn the heat down a little.

Once the skillet toast is made, time to put in the precooked(baked at home) bacon, move it aside, add the eggs in the hot pan, works for me.

I'm not sure I want toast that has been bathed in a propane flame to cook, so we drag along a regular toaster. When there's no 120V, there's no toast.

We place the bread on a cookie sheet and slide it under the burner of the oven. Wait a few minutes, flip the bread to brown the other side.

We use the same method to brown biscuits on the top before the bottoms turn to charcoal.

Wait- I thought there were slots in the roof of every Airstream just for making toast.

1. Pop bread in slots.

2. Push down on tongue.

3. Bread pops up when it's done!

Airstreams up to 25' have two slots. 27' and longer Airstreams are 4 slot models (yanno, for families.)

I don't yet own an Airstream (still looking and dreaming.) Please don't tell me that the toaster slots aren't standard equipment. I will be so disappointed!

If you like toast with your eggs. Try a "toad in the hole". Take the center out of of a firm piece of bread or muffin, butter it on both sides if you intend to flip it. Put it butter side down in a preheated skillet and break an egg into the hole in the bread. Cook the egg and toast the bread to your liking (overeasy, sunnyside, or hard) at the same time. Adjust the time the bread is in the pan with the egg to get them both cooked the way you like it. Enjoy!

What - no one uses the exhaust manifold of their tow vehicle?

Don't know about your Tourerg, but I can't even see the exhaust manifold in my vehicle. Back in the 60's one of my dad's old german fishing buddies used to love to drink coffee. Wrapped a piece of copper pipe around the exhaust header pipe on the Ford pickup that hauled the boat and camper. Ran water from the camper tank through the pipe to a petcock fastened under the dash board. Teaspoon of ersatz coffe in the mug, open the valve and you had hot coffee.

1. Cut out a stencil of a veiled figure. Set that stencil on piece of bread.
2. Spray with PAM.
3. Take battery out of smoke detector.
4. Get Coleman toaster red hot; put bread ... well you know.
5. Display saintly bread reverently around the campground.
6. Fame of toast spreads far and wide. Pilgrimage begins.
7. Put up on eBay. Winning bid exceeds your wildest expectations. Go to Vegas.
8. Bidder reneges (of course).
9. Sell Airstream with lost smoke detector to cover Vegas debts.

Going to my room now...

We found that a toaster was a "must-have" in our Interstate.

Have also been known to skewer a slice of bread on a toasting fork and brown it over a morning fire. You can also put buttered slices into a pie iron, jam in the center, and have a neat little jammie sammie with your eggs and bacon.

Gelert Folding toaster for camping toast | The Camping Stove Specialist

We have had one for a looooong time...wouldn't be without it. Bought one for the new TC also...
We usually boondock, so the stove and oven get used frequently no 'tricity where we go. Don't have a 'lectric toaster, don't have a micro...don't miss 'em.
K-I-S-S. This gadget takes up about as much space as a frisbee (we do carry one of those...)
