we have discussed a lot of coffee macnines for our AS but was wondering if anyone has purchased the Handpresso Auto Espresso Maker for your TV and if so how do you like it. I have read reviews and they seem to be good for the most part. It is expensive anywhere from $180.00 to $200.00. It works off of the car battery and makes one shot of espresso using a coffee pod. I thought it might be a nice addition to have on long trips. the cheapest price that I saw was at Whole Latte Love Whole Latte Love - people passionate about coffee!.

I'm also a "two fisted" espresso lover. I use my Nespresso Pixie when I have AC or the generator and I use the AeroPress when I don't. Both make fantastic shots of espresso but one just takes some manual effort.

We love our Nespresso. The Citiz model is only about 6" wide, so not nearly as bulky as Mr. Coffee. And Nespresso capsules are much smaller than Kurig's. But more expensive, as Switzerland isn't part of China.

The coffee's great, and they'll ship capsules anywhere in two days. The hot milk foamer is another mission-critical must-have.

Re: Bunn MCU (Keurig-cup brewer)

We recently bought a Bunn MCU to brew Keurig cups while traveling. See product details in this link:

Bunn My Cafe Single-Cup Multi-Use Brewer, Black/Stainless Steel - Walmart.com

My wife and I retired recently, and previous trips had been limited to 1-2 weeks, max. This past fall, we took our first extended roadtrip; and our French press became too much trouble to use and clean on a daily basis. Since we had to run the generator daily to recharge our batteries, we started looking for a small Keurig-type coffee brewer (which requires 115VAC). All of the Keurig brewers have huge water reservoirs, and they take up a lot of space on the counter or table top in our Bambi. Then, we found the Bunn MCU, which has a significantly smaller footprint.

The Bunn seems to be very sturdily built, and it brews as good a cup of coffee as the larger Keurig models. Plus, by lacking the Keurig's large external water reservoir, there is much less water to spill when underway (assuming the brewer remains upright).

The only odd thing that we experienced was when one brand of bottled water (purchased on the road) would not activate the brewing cycle. After rereading the user instructions, the bottled water did not have sufficient minerals in it for the sensor to detect that the reservoir was full. So, I poured most of the water into a temporary container, added a pinch of salt and poured the water back into the Bunn. -- Problem solved.

As an aside, if other Keurig owners experiences are like ours, I suspect that a couple of times a year they have periodically needed to flush out clogged lines; and they may even have had to replace brewers that were unrepairable. I anticipate that this Bunn will outlast the Keurig brewer we currently use at home; as it is built with typical, heavy-duty, Bunn quality with sturdy plastic parts and heavy stainless steel, unlike the lightweight plastics used in the Keurigs.

We have a 5 cup Mr Coffee, for when we have shore power, and an old fashion stainless steel percolator for the stove top, for boondocking, in the Safari.

We have a 5 cup Krups for the Excella.

I like the Mr Coffee the best. Cost around $15 at wallyworld.

I use this Bodum Chambord French Press coffee maker since few years. Robust, rubber covered bottom. Fully satisfied and have free of charge the “Airstream” look. I paid less than 35$, just wait for special to get it at this price. Some pictures and the Bodum link below:

TV Espresso Machine

With three coffee pots on the AS one being a full size espresso machine my TV felt left out. So I purchased this espresso machine for the truck. It fits nicely into the cup holder and works on 12 volts. It also stores nicely in box between the seats. Now I only hope it makes good expresso like the reviews said

I love that your TV felt anything - let alone "left out". :-)

We have the electric coffeemaker AND the french press. French press makes the best coffee, no doubt, but when you have an electric hookup and just dont want to fuss, the other one is easier. (translated- hubby uses press, I use coffeemaker - all boils down to who wakes up first)

12 volt coffee maker ? They work great!

Amazon has some 12 volt coffee makers. However Our Airstream has a 120 v Braun. They do not make our model any more or I would recommend it, Braun KF400 . Remember to keep the box and stuff. We travel with ours packed up as if we were returning it. It does not take long to remove it from the box when you get to the camp site. For the road I use a Thermos for coffee while traveling.

I met a fellow Streamer at Starbucks earlier this week....
It was a quick fix for us and a way if life for him! He laughed about being able to park his wet bath 16' in the living room of my 34' and still have room for a coffee bean grinder...

Coffee?

this discussion is fun if for no other reason than reading all the different opinions on coffee.

coming from the self proclaimed coffee capital of the world I too have my preference which is for strong, black coffee from a fresh grind. However, only one scenario makes it best and that is when enjoyed early in the morning, with a beautiful sunrise while sitting in the dinette of my 25 FC looking out over the ocean.

excuse me while I go brew up a cup.

High Priced Machine

My best coffee maker was free, a Mr. Coffee 5 cupper from the "Exchange" area of the town recycling center. Vinegar and water run through it a few times descaled whatever was in there plus a good scrubbing does me justice.
My second favorite is a stainless steel drip percolator from that tony deliverer of imported goods, Wally Mart. Use paper filters to keep the grounds out.
Keep looking for the best beans though aroma/flavor over caffeine win out nowadays. Dark Roast or Colombian where it is available.

We use the Starbucks Verismo pod style coffee maker. It does not make the least cost coffee, but the unit is compact, well designed and built, and very convenient to use. First cup of the morning takes less than two minutes total time including prep. The coffee is great and with the very unique milk pods, you can have a quick and yummy latte.

I use anything that drips and comes on automatically so that I wake up to the aroma of fresh brewed Colombian dark roast and don't have to fumble with anything before sunrise. It's the main reason for having a solar system. Jim

We got the 8-cup Farberware stove top percolator. It does a nice job and we have a spare carafe in the AS so we can start a second pot if necessary. There were some complaints about it on Amazon but you have to follow the directions, you can't just turn the flame on high and walk away or it will boil over. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and let it perc for about 8-10 minutes and voila!

I wish I had thought about searching eBay first. There are some nice Revere Ware percolators from 4-cup to 16-cup urns. They are very well built and of course, retro.

We travel with three coffee makers! Overkill? Maybe....
But a day without a good cup of coffee isn't a good day.
We have a Faberware stainless electric perc., a stainless stovetop perc. and a stainless french press. All three fit in our pantry and because they are stainless steel we don't need to worry about breakage.
We, too, love the Gevalia coffees. We do have a grinder with us.
Another delicious coffee is Ethiopian Sidamos from the Roasterie in Kansas City. We tried this coffee over the holidays and immediately became addicted!

Ah! the aroma of coffee...anytime of the day.
