Fruit storage

Please share ideas for how to best store fruit in your AS. I have tried baskets and hanging mesh bags. Both methods resulted in short shelf life for bananas, apples and onions. Thanks in advance- and yah, tough problem, I know.

Actually, it is a tough problem, unless you are willing to visit the produce department daily or eat out of cans and boxes.
We tried a hammock above our cooktop (which has never had the burners lit). The heat and humidity from the ice maker and hot water kettle are enough to send bananas to the rest home in one day. My wife gets the best results by setting fruit (keep bananas separate) in an open Tupperware type container lined with paper towels and setting it away from sunlight or heat, as much as possible in a trailer (for us, that’s the unused portion of the dinette). An insulated store bag with an ice block helps on travel days (leave the zipper open to let the contents breathe).
We also use dried fruit, including apples we dehydrate ourselves each fall and then refrigerate.
I’m waiting to see what other forum members have to offer.
Happy, tasty, travels!

Use Ice Pack ( not ice ) in a decent smaller cooler, one pack in the cooler and one pack in the trailer freezer, the cooler doesn’t need to be real cold, but again don’t use ice.

Keeping fruit, especially bananas, in a place which gets warm is tough. This problem is not limited to Airstreams or travel trailers, but since many of our trailers will get quite warm while traveling or during the day when we're away from them it is a problem for many.

I spent the past summer living in a very hot climate, and due to extremely high electric costs the a/c is only used at night while sleeping. This has meant that keeping things like bananas fresh on the counter for more than a day or two is just not possible. We either shop frequently or just do without. They can be kept in the fridge for a few days, but I don't care for them once they are in the fridge.

My approach has been to shop more often for fresh fruit and to make use of things like dried blueberries for breakfast cereal instead of fresh. They last a long time and are tasty.
