Dried Sweet Corn

I found this in the canned vegetable aisle at a WalMart in Pennsylvania this morning.

Made in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and I have never seen it before.

Shelf stable, about 2 cups dried corn in a package, rehydrate and cook.

Anybody ever tried this? I like the looks of the baked corn.

I’ll let y’all know how it is, once I try it out.

Yes we have tried this. It's kind of a local, Pennsylvania Dutch, thing. We have friends from other parts of the country that ask us to send it to them periodically.

"Good" is in the eye of the beholder, so to speak. It is sweet corn and is thus sweet. We don't eat it often for that reason. It is very popular at Thanksgiving.

I’m going to try the corn pudding when I get to my daughters and have an oven...maybe add a can of corn to it for texture.

I haven't tried that brand, but I use dried veggies frequently. I buy them from harmony house foods. They have everything. I add them to soup, ramen, etc. Sometimes the corn is a little chewier but sweet and tasty. Enjoy

My Grandparents are from SW PA and PA Dutch was a part of the cooking menu. Sorry no recipes but I do remember a dried corn product being a pantry item.

Try for frozen corn from a health food store, before canned, IMO. The can imparts yucky overtones to the flavor.

The dried corn should be OK in a baked bread or dessert IMO.

I would also give it a try, fried with some chopped onlons in a cast iron skillet. Fry it up, then add a couple of [beaten] eggs for a mini frittata.

I am a bit surprised this post has so few posts? I think this would go well with the freeze dried Astronaut ice cream.
And it would pair well with jerky when doing a long drive.....a bit of corn let er soak and get your veggies. Then some jerky get your protein.
So to be fair, I have had freeze dried corn and actually did like it as a snack out of the bag while driving.
Maybe I am weird.

In our past, we camped in a three person tent without cooler. I put together dried food mixes. I used freeze dried sweet corn for things like corn chowder. I also grind sweet corn for corn meal for making corn bread. Everything, including two weeks of food had to fit behind the seats of the Jeep Wrangler.

Used to love Corn Nuts as a snack, but the teeth won't handle them anymore.

I never did try this, as there was a pit bull attack that prompted us to leave my daughters’ early, and before I could cook it.

I have a second package at home, and may get it tried on my son and his family one day soon.

I have a corn casserole recipe they all love, which the rehydrated sweet corn could perhaps be a part of.

An item that we look for whenever we’re Stateside is the dehydrated hash browns from Hungry Jack. Comes in a pint cardboard carton like a milk carton.. Add boiling water up to the fold line and 20 minutes later you have pan ready hash browns. Container says 7 servings but we call it 6 and get 3 meals for the 2 of us per carton. Keeps well in the fridge. Walmart haS them.
