My wife cooks in the oven frequently. We actually got rid of the original convection microwave and replaced it with an oven.

If we go camping and I don't provide my Girls with Cinnamon buns on Sunday morning, it gets to be an ugly ride home

I had to replace the stove/oven when I got it. The Florida humidity and heat rusted it out along with the furnace under it. I asked the wife if she wanted the oven replaced, she said no. I installed a new gas cook top and a microwave under it where the oven was. We do oven type cooking with a crock pot. This arrangement works well for us.

Propane oven works boondocking

You can still cook in your propane oven when boondocking.....not so with the microwave....anyway you can cook so much more in a regular oven.....not fast maybe but aren't we camping in the slow lane? Paula

one more thing.

I must admit that the oven in our 1969 looked like it had never been used.....different strokes for different folks...p

Odd question to those with the propane oven - when on a longer bake, say two hours or so, how much heat does it dissipate into the Airstream interior?

.... Still mulling over a smeg,

Ian

We have both oven and convection microwave. The convection microwave gets used at hookups with the occasional long run bake and the extra heat generated is nice in the winter and not that noticeable with windows/ceiling fans in use in the non-summer months. When it is hot and/or humid already, baking drops to nil. When boondocking it is a semi-regular evening device.

I added a marble floor tile to our oven years ago as it made breads cook more uniformly according to the chef. A large egg, bacon, cheese, and potato breakfast casserole dish the wife routinely makes for group outings is much better (per my tastebuds) after the stone addition.

SeeMore, could you please post a photo of your tile in the oven?
Thanks
Jane

Love our oven...key part of the adventure. The pilot lighting is the hardest step, but as mentioned many times...just practice when you don't have an important deadline! Once you get it, you got it!

I hope to see what you did to your oven at the Falluminum.

Nice to have the oven when boondocking. The new convention ovens don't work well without electric.

we have a 99 Safari so our oven (and trailer) should be about like yours. I don't use the oven much but it is nice to have. Hubby does the lighting of the pilot. I have just found that you have to keep an eye on what you are baking as it can tend to brown on the bottom. I sometimes put an extra cookie sheet under my dish to prevent the browning.

How big of a tile did you use did not think about a floor tile. I have been looking for a pizza stone to put in our oven no luck.

The piece of marble (12x12) I used came from Home Depot. I just grabbed one of the $1.95 a tile specials as color matching was not an issue. It sits in the metal tray above the burner at the bottom of the oven. I used a grinder to cut it to fit as it needs to be about 11x10 to stay put in the depression in the center. It helps stabilize the temperatures and disperse the heat more evenly. The up side is the over cooked bottom Safari Streamer mentioned is no more :-)
