Divider boxes for glassware
I have been experimenting with drinking vessels made of several materials: cheap discount store plastic, polycarbonate, porcelain, and stainless steel.
None has been entirely satisfactory and as a result I'm contemplating a return to glass. Glass is easy to clean, looks good, does not stain, and of course, it is possible to ascertain whether the glass is half full, half empty, or all three with a mere glance.
In the gilded age, travelers of means or station took great pride in bringing all the comforts and style of home. There was no plastic, and glassware of all kinds was packed in velvet-lined boxes or cases made of wood or leather.
I'm envisioning a wooden box, divided into (say) 12 cells, each lined with velvet or felt, and holding a glass. Perhaps with a lid. Lightweight but secure enough to hold glassware and prevent breakage even during emergency maneuvers.
A variation with somewhat more blocking might work for stemware.
Any sources? Ideas? Who has tried this?
