We probably enjoy a good cup of coffee a little too much. At home we have a Jura, but on the road we use our Nespresso.

For the person asking about how we travel the Chemex, a few pix. When I pull it from the case, I hold it up high, like a special magic orb and those in witness usually make angel rejoicing sounds for a moment before we go on with our other camp set up duties.

quality with easy cleanup and compact sizes
most of the time we use a clever dripper for 2 cups in the morning. also use Aeropress. Both can use fresh ground beans and cleanup is easier than a French press and do not take up a lot of space like a drip coffee maker or a Chemex.

K Cups
Lee it simple. If you like it at home you’ll enjoy it on the road. Plus’s are a simple supply as you can just buy K Cups

I had a Keurig and never felt the coffee was strong enough. Lacked flavor. Then I tried a French press, and ended up giving it away. My current favorite is the 4 cup (really one cup for me) mini percolator by Cuisinart.
First, the carafe is stainless, not glass, so if I bounce it off the floor, no glass will fly. Next, it uses very little power, I want to say 500 w. and it makes a batch in 3 minutes. There's no bells and whistles, add water, filter, coffee and press the button.
Since there's no water reservoir, when I move, I just put it in the overhead cabinet.

Ours is still in the box it came in.
It's stored in the cupboard above the pantry.
We are also a bit snobby about it, after all, it has its display at MoMA.

We got a Jura EN8 this fall. It’s just now coming into its own and making a good cup. Love everything but the milk system.

How is a Chemex different from any other pour over coffee maker. We used to use a Malita pour over with thermal carafe like the one linked below. No glass to fuss with and kept the coffee hot. I am really curious to know if a Chemex makes better coffee than other pour overs and if so, why?

Keurig Mini. Makes a fine cup of coffee (I've owned many high end coffee makers, espresso machines, drip systems, etc) and stows easily for travel. And not having a water reservoir is actually a plus - nothing to empty when packing up, no wasted water when boondocking.

Nespresso works for us! It is a tad larger than I would like but simple to use (no grinding beans as at home), just pop a pod in and it's done - double espresso for me and a latte for the barrista (she has a little mini-frother of sorts). Oh yes, if we are boondocking we drink tea.

Buy one...they are a lot like a PPP hitch, difficult to explain how good they are without actually using one.
POI AI loves them also
An AI Overview
"A Chemex is often considered "better" because its thick, specialized paper filters effectively remove unwanted coffee oils and sediment, resulting in a cleaner, brighter, and lighter-bodied cup of coffee with a more nuanced flavor compared to other brewing methods that allow more oils to pass through, like a French press; this is largely due to the design of the Chemex filter paper itself, which is thicker and folded differently than standard coffee filters."
Was I rong in "quoting" AI?.

My wife loves coffee and I love making coffee. In our Airstream, we have a hand grinder for the fresh ground beans, but we have only had a single cup electric coffee maker. So, due to this thread and a desire to have a more personal, hands-on process to brew her the perfect cup of coffee, I just ordered her a Chemex coffee pot, leather coaster, and a brushed stainless chettle to complete the experience as a Christmas gift from Santa.

Chemex tips...use the brown un-bleached filters and boil enough water to fill the pot once. (William Sonoma)
I use a straw down the fill neck to empty the pot quicker.
I can't prove the wet down makes the coffee taste better, but I did read it on the interwebspace.
We have found this container the best for storing the beans.
Experiment with the grind, finer is more robust, larger smoother.
Sip Happy...

Thanks for the tips! Before the small coffee maker, I used a French press, but that is one messy clean up. Our grinder is adjustable and does very well. My wife’s favorite beans are 100% Kona, medium roast, from a small producer in Hawaii near where our daughter lives, but the beans are almost $50 per pound. It’s probably still cheaper than my Diet Coke. Anyway, here is our burr grinder. https://a.co/d/7od2cQ9

If that was AI, it's obvious AI doesn't know what many of us are trying to achieve with a burr grinder using fresh beans...oils and flavor is the goal, best achieved by brewing immediately after grinding the beans. Filtering with a French Press or Percolation (I think) offer little filtering of the flavors, IMHO. No paper filters. The goal also should be to minimize the amount of time from grind to drinking, reducing the exposure of fresh ground beans to Co2 (oxygen) which starts to diminish the flavor immediately, according to the experts. (like a bottle of wine- oxidation is the enemy!)
Anyway, all this information from the experts here, had my wife taking another "look" at some of the gadgets for the AS when it comes to making coffee..even though I am happy with the 6 cup electric percolator when we travel, and using with pre-ground coffee; she thinks we need to try fresh ground beans again like we do at home! So, here we go again...purchased the "TIMEMORE Chestnut C2 Manual Coffee Grinder" and the "Bear Travel Electric Kettle, Foldable Portable Kettle". We already have a couple French Press coffee makers....I will report back once these new gadgets arrive!

Thanks for the information! I went down a rabbit hole last night reading and watching reviews on manual grinders, and ended up ordering a TIMEMORE Chestnut C3S MAX Pro Manual Coffee Grinder directly from Timemore, as they are having some pretty darn good CyberMonday sales. Needless to say, my wife better really enjoy this Christmas coffee.
