Gringo, putting some instant under your tongue, or in your cheek is cleaner, easier, faster, and no tracks Besides, trying to keep your eyes open and focus to start the needle can be a challenge at times. Our old pots are reliable and can be multi tasked, but best of all is the aroma. The smell of fresh brewing coffee just seems to get the day started right.
Now if I can just convince my wife that it's ok for the inside of the cup to be a little brown we'll be ok

hmmm Ahab, I don't know but as I enjoy my second cup, I'll put it on my list of questions to ask my doc next time I see him, though I guess he'll tell me that breathing can kill me as well...enjoy

Unfiltered coffee might raise your cholesterol, but it also reduces your risk of cancer. So what's worse?

We use a Nissan stainless steel, vacuum insulated French press in the Tin Pickle; simple and easy. A drip coffee filter would be faster to clean, but this is doesn't require any attention after filling once.

I've got one of those as well. We use it when boondocking. I like my coffee.

I do it the hard way as well. Nissan press and my favorite cup is from an Italian coffee pot (a 12 cup) that only makes 2 1/2 American cups.

I go to Goodwill a lot and found these mugs which are made of enamelware (sp?) and they are from Pottery Barn. I was so surprised to find out how these mugs keep hot beverages, well, so hot and for such a long time. Plus they are lightweight and very very durable. This is how we make our coffee:

This is what works for me.... It's also great for distilling small batches of sour-mash to fill up my mason jar servers...

I thought this was camping. I make campfire coffee over the camp fire.
I have a large enamel coffee pot , NO insides. I use 2 gallons of water and bring to a boil. next add 1 lb of coffee and add it SLOWLY as not to boil over. next take one egg and break it shell and all to the coffee. Put the lid on and boil for another 10 minutes. This will last on the fire all day or until empty. Serves 8 - 10 people.
I leave the pot and ingredients out and the one who empties or up first in the AM starts the next pot.

Camp Coffee

I think Airtandem and I are on the same page on this one.

This pic is staged, I do use this older Coleman on the weekends to perk the small Coleman SS perk pot and it does a fine job, actually the best working perk pot I have owned others were aluminum.

But if we have a get together then THE BIG POT comes out and goes over the open fire. It is a Mirro 11 qt ( 2 3/4 gallon) boiler and it is a doozie. Get it boiling, reduce heat, add grounds, slow rolling boil, let it rest to settle and line em up. I don't think I would even waste my time trying this one on the Coleman.

To put a size with the pot, it is about 17" tall to the bail handle and about 11 1/4" wide at the bottom.

As far as using pots that you want to keep clean on an open fire, I just rub liquid soap on the outside of the pot/pan up as high on the pot as I think is necessary, but always below the rim. Soap don't taste so good. Clean up is really simple, rinse, scrub as needed with steel wool or Scotch Brite and minimum elbow grease.

If wer'e going to be on shore power, we bring our home unit, a 58mm La Pavoni Pro. It has a manual lever to press the water through the grounds, so with some practice, you can compensate for changes in humidity, altitude, grind, and oil in the beans. OK the real reason is, it looks cool, makes a mean espresso, and has a powerfull steamer.
For boondocking I'm trying out 2 different setups. The first is a lexan camp espresso maker I got from the clearance table at REI. It has a normal grouphead setup for the ground and a chamber for hot water that seals tight, and a hand pump to preasurize the water chamber to run the water through the grounds. I couple that with and stove-top steamer for making mochas, latte's and hot chocolates for the kids. The other rig I've been tinkering with is a Bellman CX-25 (theyve had a dozen different names over the last few decades, but thats what theyre being sold as nowadays) I still need some more practice with that one however because results have been spotty. If its just coffee for me, Ill cheat and use those Starbucks Via packets. Just need hot water, no mess, little fuss and nothing to throw away except for the little pouch, which by the way, makes a handy spoon to stir it with
