Great find!

They look deeper than usual, or is that just camera angle?

Thx Maggie, just camera angle. Did onions and mushrooms in the grill to help season them.

I have a set of three different sized cast iron skillets that I think are Griswold, purchased at a hardware store in West Virginia as I recall...1972, setting up housekeeping with my first husband who was out of the service and going to college on the GI Bill.

My son has his eyes on those skillets someday, as I raised he and his little sister cooking in them every day.

Yikes. Time flies.

Cast Iron Skillet Cover

For those who love to use their favorite cast iron skillet on the road but don't like packing it up or traveling with it.

https://edgevaleusa.com/products/cast-iron-skillet-case

We got one as a gift and love it. It fits our 12in skillet perfectly.

I think my cast iron will be a forever player in my camping cooking gear. It just works.

Oh yeah I made another 5 lb standing rib roast for Christmas dinner in my 10 qt camp DO with charcoal for heat.

Next time I’ll run a bit less heat and just let the thermometer tell me when to serve.

And bacon over a fire or even a burner. It’s all good.

Thanks for the heads up. Is there enough room to nest 2-3 smaller skillets inside the 12" ? If you set your skillet on a counter, how high off the counter is the edge? Would a deep skillet fit in this bag? They don't give any dimensions.

12" x 5" deep for instance: https://www.lodgecastiron.com/produc...et?sku=L10DSK3

Thanks Gary you got my mouth watering for spring and summer up here!

It looks to be approx. 3 3/4 in deep.

I can nest 4 skillets in there with the 12in standard lodge at the base and still have about 1in of wiggle room.

I can also get in a 12in Le Creuset pan (3in deep) with the lid inverted.

Quick cast iron question,

Can I use a disposable aluminum pan in a Dutch oven for baking?

We’re planning a weekend trip where washing facilities will be limited, I won’t have the airstream with me. In the past we’ve done mostly grilling to avoid dishes, but I want to add more variety.
My friends and I are discussing a whole weekend of fire cooking so want to cook several casseroles and deserts.

Absolutely you can, also the parchment Dutch oven liners are very effective.

I particularly like the latter for things like monkey bread.

Have fun!

We buy liners at Sportsman's Warehouse. Works great for those messy deserts like cobbler.

Amazing! Thank you,
The forum always delivers,

Our local hardware store has a rack of lodge products, I’ll check if they have have or can get liners when they open for in person shopping again.

This weekend I’m going to try a make-ahead breakfast recipe that I can just drop in the pot in the morning.
