And the best bacon is....?
I nominate Benton's Bacon. I just read about it today. Here's the blurb. Anyone have other ideas on 'the best bacon in the world'?
Benton's Bacon
North Madisonville, Tennessee's Benton's Country Hams, famous for its world-class traditional dry-cured ham and (also dry-cured) bacon, is another American company that just makes us proud.
New York Times writer John T. Edge said it best: "Allen Benton is the rock star of American bacon. There's just something very primal about his bacon. It's like barbecue and is so distinctive."
Chef devotees of Benton's intensely, beautifully smoky bacon are many, and include David Chang, Sean Brock, and Hugh Acheson, to name just a few.
Get It: Four 1-pound packs of Benton's famous hickory-smoked bacon cost just $26 via Benton's website, but bear in mind that there may be a 5-week delay in delivery--which you will totally understand once you taste this extraordinary bacon, which would satisfy even the pickiest one-percenter.

I nominate Nueske's. I've been able to get it only a couple of times but it's excellent. My next favorite, readily available here, is Wright's. (cheaper, too)
Here's a link to the Men's Health article on the top 10. Nueske's made #7

My wife's family owns a butcher shop in Port Dover Ontario. I would have to nominate them, but any local, family owned shop that processes their own product is hard to beat. Kind of like craft beer, things produced in small batches by people who are proud of their work usually results in a superior product. As an added bonus you can feel good about supporting local businesses. When we travel I try to look for family run operations such as restaurants and shops and campgrounds!

I nominate the slab bacon we serve at the Birthday Bash. I think it is produced by Kunzler. I buy it by the slab at my local butcher. If you love bacon, we serve it up.

My vote goes to Edward's of Surry, VA. I buy slabs and always have some on hand.

I get mine at a small butcher in CT, Salem Prime Cuts. It is sliced thick, not too smoky, and just delicious. I buy a couple of pounds at a time, freeze four slices per bag (that's enough for the two of us, and it thaws quickly), and always have a bag or two in the freezer when we're camping. And, I save the drippings for cooking eggs or breakfast potatoes. This same butcher also makes and sells what we call meat spirals...perfect for camping, since they cook quickly, freeze beautifully and are inexpensive. It is a thin slice of beef smeared with their house-made Italian sausage, rolled up, and then cut crosswise to reveal a spiral. We stockpile those for camping weekends. They also make an incredible turducken, if you ever want to try that.

The best bacon is whatever happens to be on my plate or in my belly at the time! It's all tasty!
Side note— I'm scratching my poor bald head over how this thread ended up in "Sprinter and B-Vans" as opposed to something more appropriate like "Stella's Kitchen."

Good point - I moved it to 'the kitchen'
Best bacon I've ever had comes from our local butcher, and it's Maple Bacon. It put us into a new 'bacon bracket', we'll never eat store bought bacon again!

Here in Iowa, where pigs outnumber people by about a bizillion, we do business with a pig farmer who raises heirloom hogs. His bacon spoils you for anything else!

I like them all. I never met a bacon that I didn't like.
This discussion of bacon reminds me of a sign that was in a greasy spoon restaurant in downtown Miami many years ago. It read:
"Either you love bacon, or you're wrong"

Does anyone eat "Fresh Side". It looks like bacon but it isn't. You fry it up like bacon and sprinkle on the salt.
Mom use to cook it for me as a kid. It is so good. This fall I found it again in northern Wisconsin. It's oh so artery clogging but oh so good. I smile and think, as long as I have my full-sugared Coke Classic with it, the acid in the Coke m-u-s-t be breaking down that plaque building stuff. LOL - being self deceiving works great for me on this issue and it's just fun to think this way, once in awhile. I say, Eat up! Bacon and/or Fresh Side!

Cholesterol is good for you. When you get old and osteoporosis makes your bones too weak to hold you up, your hardened arteries will take over the task!
