They were affectionately called "Squarestreams" Like usual, the company first built them as Argosy's and then put the Airstream name on the next batch, it would seem. They didn't sell very well. The one or two I have seen have had roof leak issues.

They're pretty nice campers. I kinda like the Integrity 5th wheels even more, though.

They lost the curves and the soft lines, as well as the aerodynamics that come with them. Looks odd when you are used to looking at a "normal" airstream.

Here is a link to my Squarestream page. I have three other units archived.

Technically, the model is an Airstream "Land Yacht".

I have been in two of the square Argosys. Both had very nice wood work and great floor plans with lots of interior space and good upper cabinet storage due to the square exterior shape. In good shape, they are very nice trailers. The two that I saw had floor plans very different, and I would say much more desirable than the one for which wncrasher posted the link.

Looks like a Squarestream. Still aluminum semi monocoque/aircraft fuselage construction- an attempt by parent company Thor to sell more trailers or get people who would otherwise buy some other brand...good trailers, just not as pretty.

If Thor would have gotten its way back in the 80's, the Airstream would have been replaced by the cheaper squarestream design. Fortunately for everyone, the attempt to eliminate the classic design failed and the classic design has had a revival and is now more popular than ever. Now Thor has a gold mine that they could only dream of when they bought the company back in the 80s.

Kinda like the New Coke. Thank goodness for some failures. I did like the motorhomes that looked like the trailers.
