Many reasons, but two especially:

Durability. These can last indefinitely if maintained. SOBs? with few exceptions, not so much.

Hold their value, especially when buying used; in fact, today my vintage trailer is worth both more than I paid for it, and more than it originally cost.

Close third: easily updatable and customizable. Both the functionality and interior design can be improved upon, without compromising the integrity of the trailer or overall aesthetic. (Or can even be refurbished if you like that 50's chic or groovy 70's shagadellic vibe.)

FWIW: stylish cabinet latches that work well, courtesy the marine industry:

What I love

I love the fact when I pull into our new spot that the chances I will see another one like it are zero, and that every other vintage one we've toured thus far are no comparison in interior build out.

Thank you "farafield"

I hope I got your name correct. In any case, thank you for opening a positive thread. These forum threads collect a plethora of negative views and your post is refreshing to read. I owned a 93 Sovereign and had a few issues, but what I learned looking back on that experience was that I needed to change my attitude and become more adaptable to deal with reality and less blinded by the romantic image of traveling like royalty in one of the most iconic trailers in the world.
I am back in the market for either an Interstate Class B or BaseCamp. Each has its own pros for fitting into my newly retired lifestyle. I am not looking for anyone (but me) to answer which is best for me, but I WOULD love to hear from Interstate and BaseCamp owners who have enjoyed these respective rigs and what made it the right choice for THEM.

Many thanks

I like the look of those latches! How long have you had them installed and do they show any signs of wear I.e. screw holes enlarging/getting loose from doing their job (keeping doors shut)?

What do I "LUV" about my 1977 Argosy 6.0 Metre Minuet?

The ALUMINUM composite honeycomb floor!

No Rotting wood floor for me.

PatLee,
Here is the latch that I used and the link to Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The brushed nickel matches the cabinet handles perfectly. The only problem I had was dealing with the door molding contours to make the latch level and be aesthetically acceptable. I first tried using wood to make the fascia to level the latch but it looked clunky and the stain didn’t match the cherry wood cabinet so I found that the old plastic photography film cans were the perfect size and easily cut and carved with a box cutter to match the needed contour.

I love that it is not a gargantuan white slab-sided brick with swoopy graphics.

One of these things is not like the others...

I will never understand the tacky decal graphics. We had a SOB 25' with slide out that we lived in on our property while our house was being remodeled. OK and actually fun for us, but goodness the construction quality was pretty bad when you got looking at the details, and the slide out leaked badly apparently inherent in design (an awning over the slide-out would have fixed that)…. At any rate the graphics were peeling on this 6 year old trailer so I used a heat gun and eventually peeled them all off and cleaned up the residue. The lack of graphics was a selling point for our buyer....What was especially ridiculous on our SOB was that some of the graphics actually went over portions of the windows!

I need to add that I would never insult a neighbor with a SOB at a park on their choice of RV, and always go out of the way to honestly admire certain features of their chosen RV. But this is about why we chose and luv AS.

I love everything about our Airstream, in the same way I love everything about my Rolex ... that is everything but the price! both are iconic and then again I'm well over 70 so I guess I'm iconic too since we're all older models.

I fell in love with AS when I was a boy in the 70’s, my parents were on the hwy and one passed us. It was my first love 😂 In late 80’s when my wife and I were in our mid 20’s and accidentally came across a 25’ Landyacht 70’s model we loved it the few years we had it. For the past 20 years we’ve owned a 1999 Bambi and we can’t schedule enough camping trips a year to satisfy the joy we get every time we take a trip. We are on countdown mode to retirement (3 years) and hope to take a 2 month long nationwide road trip. It is a thing of beauty that is hard to describe, just looking at our Bambi in the backyard takes both of our breath away and leaves a silly smile on our faces 😂

I live in a hurricane area. I love my AS because it is always ready to go as a bugout vehicle. If my house gets damaged, I'm still not homeless! I can't and never will be homeless!! Plus it's long paid for.
😁👌

New Friends!

These are all such great answers. So many things to love but my top two are the cozy feeling of our own little "cocoon" on a cold night, and all the new friends we have made. Plus it is so compact and efficient. I guess that's three, and there are actually many more...

What do I love about my airstream? Everything! But like someone else mentioned here, I bought it specifically so that I can take my doggo's with me when on vacation. So it's more for them than for me LOL.

I fell in love with one when I was on a month-long family trip to the West in a popup. I was like 11 years old at that time. My dream came true last May when I bought an 2017 AS Bambi which is one of few that could be safely towed with my Explorer with tow package. Why wait a few years when I can buy a small AS! This is a starter AS and when I buy an Expedition, I will buy a bigger AS. I love it when I see here that most of AS owners are smart and experienced in towing with appropriate tow vehicle.

We had a Safari 25 with the sofa removed by the original owner and replaced with recliners, but no table to eat off of and no guest seating. After two years we were pretty clear on what we wanted, or at least thought we were. We traded the Safari for a 2002 Classic 30 Slideout. Sofa - check, dinette - check. But oh, that sofa. So I am now putting in a recliner loveseat. We replaced the flooring with weathered oak look vinyl plank. I replaced the old satellite dish with a new one. I replaced the axles and added a lift kit. I guess what I love is the combination of good bones, classic looks, and the ability to make it ours.

We can take our time traveling, we can take our dogs, we always have our own beds, our own shower and toilet, and we can have it anywhere we please. We have made so many new friends! A car club we belong to has the slogan "It's not the cars, it's the people". The same can be said for Airstreamers.

And it is fun being asked "I didn't know Airstream made a slideout. Can we see it?"

Al

We often need to back into a parking space. The big window above our table often gives us a grand view of the woods behind us.

Maybe the number one thing that we didn't expect, but are constantly delighted by, is the light. It is so light inside Stanley compared to other trailers and RVs. There are a lot of windows to begin with and then the aluminum interior reflects the light further. People who are unfamiliar with AS and ask to see it almost always comment on that right away.
