Update on Key West Navy Campground

As of today the Navy MWR has decided not to reopen the campgrounds on Sisgby or near the Coast Guard base until possibly January 2018. The hurricane caused significant damage to the office, laundry rooms, and blew down most of the trees near the water.

All full hookup sites that still function are being used by active duty and support contract staff working on repairs. Many of the housing units sustained flooding and water damage. Almost all of the private boat docks in the housing area were blow away. They are doing salvage operations at the marina to remove the damaged and sunk boats that were left there during the storm. The large boondock area near the Coast Guard Base is being used as a staging area for equipment removal and set up from the damaged storage areas.

The base commanding officer and Director of MWR decided not to allow visitors back in the campground till all facilities for the active duty can be repaired. Daily updates are on the MWR Facebook page and included in the base newpaper.

ThanX Mike for the update. We've been hoping for a rapid recovery down there and re-opening of Sigsbee but do understand the delays, of course. Still have hopes of things improving to the point of being able to open the CG up for us winter visitors.

Update on US Navy Campground at Key West, Florida as of 1/29/2018.

Hello everyone, last week got an update from the Campground Manager about the Sigsby RV Park and the boondocking area on Trumbo Point.

The park has reopened with all but 9 of the full hook up sites functional.

Reservations are now required by everyone up to a max of 30 days. If you want to stay longer, space available, it requires going into a rotation cycle of first in first out like years past.

All laundry, bathhouses, and restrooms are operating.

The storage areas have been cleaned and reopened. Fees are .67 per day long term and 1.50 per day short term.

Those in boondock areas are not allowed to have wood decks but free standing gazebo or canopy's are allowed with advance approval. It has to be anchored down.

They now have a 180 night max stay within 12 months per ID card holder. Whether this is used on one long stay or every weekend for a year, its the new limit. This was put in place to stop homesteaders.

The RV site rates have changed too. Waiting on copy of the official Memo from the Command but its around $26 per day for site with h/u and $16 per day boondocking.

It might also be of interest that the salvage and clean up operations at the campground and marina resulted in 88 boats and RV's being sunk or severely damaged on the property. Of those, only 28 were claimed by owners, rest had to be hauled away to a salvage yard. This might result in more active enforcement of valid tag and insurance requirements in the future.

Reservations at Sigsbee, NAS Key West Campground

Thank you for the information that has been posted here.

Just attempted to make reservations at Sigsbee in Key West. Seems September 2018 reservations are permitted, but October and later reservations are not permitted "due to the facility being closed one or more days". I have read their peak season is October to May.

This may be another new rule for this popular Navy campground, to include how far out you can reserve, however, other Navy campgrounds in Florida are available in October and beyond for reservations.

As people learn information regarding Sigsbee, I hope the information will continue to be posted in Air Forums.
