Update on US Navy Campground at Key West, Florida as of 1/29/2018.
Hello everyone, last week got an update from the Campground Manager about the Sigsby RV Park and the boondocking area on Trumbo Point.
The park has reopened with all but 9 of the full hook up sites functional.
Reservations are now required by everyone up to a max of 30 days. If you want to stay longer, space available, it requires going into a rotation cycle of first in first out like years past.
All laundry, bathhouses, and restrooms are operating.
The storage areas have been cleaned and reopened. Fees are .67 per day long term and 1.50 per day short term.
Those in boondock areas are not allowed to have wood decks but free standing gazebo or canopy's are allowed with advance approval. It has to be anchored down.
They now have a 180 night max stay within 12 months per ID card holder. Whether this is used on one long stay or every weekend for a year, its the new limit. This was put in place to stop homesteaders.
The RV site rates have changed too. Waiting on copy of the official Memo from the Command but its around $26 per day for site with h/u and $16 per day boondocking.
It might also be of interest that the salvage and clean up operations at the campground and marina resulted in 88 boats and RV's being sunk or severely damaged on the property. Of those, only 28 were claimed by owners, rest had to be hauled away to a salvage yard. This might result in more active enforcement of valid tag and insurance requirements in the future.
