Travel clubs ?
A bit over 30 days ago we purchased our first Airstream. I plan to use it and use it and use it.
We will camp everywhere and anywhere. We love to travel. I am retired and have been for 7 wonderful years, but my bride continues to love her job, so she will be restricted to 3, 4 and 5 day weekends and a 30 day vacation once a year, as well as 2 more weeks during the year when we fly to someplace with a warm beach. After I sell our Timeshare in Hawaii (please let it be soon), we will be streaming for 6 weeks at a time each year.
We are very spontaneous and take off for parts unknown at the drop of a hat. One year we took off on a Harley ride on the west coast and found ourselves in South Carolina dancing in the Atlantic ocean. We put on over 9K miles on that trip.
I plan to camp at trucks stops, Walmart's, Camping World, Police departments, Church parking lots, rest stops... any place that's legal and places I feel comfortable at on our way to a destination.
Crazy huh... spend a fortune on a trailer and then try to camp for free while you're traveling. LOL It's my Scottish heritage, I just can't help it, it's in our blood. ;>) I have solar power, and am presently upgrading to T-105 batteries and a second Honda 2000i generator.... so power should not be a problem while dry camping.
As an example... it will take me about 3 days to get to South Dakota. I don't mind paying for a nice site once I am there to spend a few days, but saving $150 on the way would be nice.
Okay, I am a member of Good Sam, so I can get 10% discounts at some campgrounds, but that's it.
A friend told me that I should look into "travel clubs" and that I could find that I could be paying $0 to $10 a night at their associated or "members only" campgrounds.
THE QUESTIONS: Are their any "travel clubs" that you folks might recommend? Cost vs benefit?
Thank you for any recommendations.
Cheers,
Dan.. the cheap Scotsman.
