Can't help it. Sometimes I just get my tongue wrapped around my eye teeth and can't see what I'm saying!

I have the curse of speed reading, so that means I am a terrible editor. Speed reading lets you get the gist, while ignoring the finer points of spelling/grammar. We have become a society of "speakers" when we type, not "readers". When you speak you are not conscious of the spelling of the word you just articulated, thus "site" becomes "sight" and "brakes" become "breaks", when we type. I am still confused as to why greatful isn't spelled that way.

The worst is when they spell Chevy, Toyota, etc when you know it is spelled FORD for tow vehicles.

As long we can understand each other and help, advise or share things - all it's OK.
P.S. This does not mean that we should use correct spelling.... though!

Ah the Oxford comma: archaic, fun, and necessary!

If I write: Get Over It, please know that it is with utmost respect and empathy, for I too am challenged by English language thus abused.

However, that's a kind of modern myopia. English is an historically malleable language, especially as to spelling, but also as to words and rules. <https://stevenpinker.com/publications/words-and-rules> And confusables (site v. sight) abound in English language. <https://www.amazon.com/Rooms-Dictionary-Confusibles-Adrian-Room/dp/0710001207>

For at least twenty years I have been trying to convert the widely used word (misused, if you will) trailerites into trailerists. My efforts have been without success. My argument is that the suffix -ite means “of or pertaining to,” “of the nature of,” or “made of” -- and that the suffix -ist (much better to use in my judgement) denotes a person who is concerned with something, or holds certain principles, doctrines, etc. Thus, John Wayne made a movie about a gunman called "The Shootist" <https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075213/> not (oy!) "The Shootite."

Airframist, NOT Airframite...

The curse of speed reading does not eliminate the curse of the editor. I am also a speed reader, but my eye still catches every misspelling, misused word, grammar mistake, and even just awkward wording. It doesn't slow down my reading, and it was a great combination for a technical editor, but drives me crazy as I am reading for fun in retirement!

A very interesting article. I would have used bullets instead of a sentence. Anyway, off to the drive thru.

Between - Among

This may be the place to ask the question, where the heck did "among" go? When I was in grade school (don't start, you young whippersnappers) I was taught that "between" was used for two and "among" was three or more. How can you be between five people? Yet, you see it all the time; in newspapers, on the news, and even in documents.

As a former grant writer, those things bother me as well.

But... I try to keep in mind my husband. He is guilty of all stated offenses. Yet, if we have a flat the plumbing doesn't work, you are lost in the woods or in danger rock climbing, he is the man you want with you... hands down! He will save your butt, fix anything that is broken and do it all with a smile without a disparaging word sent your way.

We all have our strengths.

It isn't ain't, it's isn't unless you mean it is, then its it's; likewise, it's not her's, it's hers as well as his and likewise, ours and theirs, not there's.

Was going to address 'they're' but saw a squirrel....
