Suggestions for selling our dear little friend

We have enjoyed being a member of this forum and appreciated the knowledge and information given by other members to those needing help.

After 2 years with our 2008 16 ft Bambi DWR, just can’t find the ability, strength and endurance to set up, tow and camp with her anymore. Just turned 80 and finding all this too hard and complicated to continue. Airstream friends and club members have said to list on airstream sites for sale, but do not have the wherewithal to deal with that type of interaction. I had hoped to put on consignment with one of the local airstream dealers but they only want to give you wholesale or bottom barrel price. No consideration for it being Design Within Reach (DWR) model that is very rare and is no longer in production and only 40 models were made and sold by airstream. It is a really special model/desgin, very rare, in great shape and we are only the second owner, used only 3 times camping with us.

We are located in Central CA. Any suggestions. Are there brokers or people who handle these kind of transactions for you for a fee or percentage of sale? Our e-mail is jameszuur@gmail.com if direct contact is needed.

I would place an ad locally or on craigs list and then if you are uncomfortable with the sales process, insist on only in person interactions. This is a great time to sell a camper as demand is high and the RV lots are empty.

You are welcome to place an ad in our classifieds which is free but if you are uncomfortable fielding inquiries and leary of scams, in person arrangements are safer and simpler.

If you advertise on Craigslist, within hours you will receive bogus, sight-unseen, full price offers for your Airstream. All will involve some kind of payment involving PayPal or Western Union that will result in you losing money, the trailer or both.

You might want to check with A to Z motors up in Winters, California. They specialize in Airstreams and have locations on both coasts. I have read more than a few reviews from folks that have purchased from them and were happy.

Certainly, they won’t pay you what you could get selling to a private buyer as they are in business to make a living but you would avoid the hassle of a private sale.

Sorry to see you hang up your spurs but best wishes for the next chapters in your adventures!

Response - thanks!

Thanks for both your suggestions. Have been in touch with A to Z motors and they look the best of any consignment people. Still thinking about best way to do this but definitely will pass on craig's list. Thanks for the advise.

At the suggestion of our dealer, we advertised our 2012 16’ Bambi International on airstreamclassifieds.com. It was gone in hours and people were lined up to get it!

Strongly agree with Bruce B. I found my 2014 20FB on AirstreamClassifieds. Anybody who is serious about buying a used Airstream will search the Airstream Classifieds.

I am in PA & FL, and bought "Gidget" site unseen from a stranger who turned out to be a very pleasant and honest gentleman. I had him deliver the trailer to Inland Empire Airstream who I hired to do an inspection of the unit. And the very nice folks at Inland Empire Airstream stored Gidget for me until we finalized the transaction... which took awhile as I was waiting my bonus so I could pay cash and then the seller had to pay off his loan to get clear title.

I have Trusted RV Transport back hauling it to Jackson Center, OH and will pick it up next week.

So excited to join the family. Sorry that you have to give up your Airstream, hope you enjoyed it fully while you had it.

Roger - thanks for your input. Enjoy your new airstream. Looking at working with A to Z Motors in Winter. Vince knows his stuff and should be able to work out something with him.
