Stove grate enamel flaking off

The stove grate enamel on our 2018 27' Serenity has been flaking off since our first use. We're not using any unusual cookware on it, and for the most part it's just been a stainless steel Chantal kettle heating up water for coffee, so it's not as though it's been a heavy cast iron pan allowed to overheat or anything.

We're bringing our trailer to the dealer for some other issues, but I'm wondering if this is a common issue. A search didn't get any results of prior posts on this. Has anyone else had the same problem?

On our Serenity the stove grates are painted, not enamelled and the heat from the burners does affect them.

I have an area that chipped, and bought a tiny bottle of black appliance touch up paint which has worked well.

I guess it is paint, not enamel as I'd assumed. The dealer says that just happens. Doesn't seem right to me, and I told them I'm not happy with it. An appliance shouldn't just immediately deteriorate with normal use like that. They offered to put some paint on it, but what good would that do? It would just start chipping off again the first time I make coffee.

We have a 2007 and had the oven replaced 6 months ago. Ours is chipping too - it looks like scrapes. Our old oven had thinner rounded grates and this did not happen. I can’t believe that this is not a common problem as we did not abuse ours either. I’d be interested to hear what others have to say.

I contacted Dometic, hoping that they would have a stainless steel replacement part, but unfortunately they don't. I notice that in the Airstream Classic they have a higher quality stove top.

I don't find it a big issue as the bi-fold stainless cover is down when the stove isn't in use.

I have a 2019 International Serenity with a Dometic cook top. Enamel is falling off little by little. I agree this indicates low quality and it is certainly souring me on ever buying another Dometic cook top again. I also find the Piezo ignitor is very unreliable. Works on the first click sometimes, other times it works after multiple turns (often resulting in a mini burst of flame) and other times time I have to resort too my trusty Bic lighter.

This wasn’t happening on our 2020 international. I guess if it happens on our Flying cloud, I will have it sand blasted and chromed.

We've replaced them on our 2017 Serenity in December 2018. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We replaced the gates in our 2018 trailer in 2021 — four months later they look like 2018 grates...

I researched this a while back. I was going to re-enamel the cooktop and the grates too. Ipe-porcelain.com was who I talked too. They were going to sand blast everything and recoat. I think it was going to cost a couple hundred but I didn't go through with it since I found a used top with good grates from another stove for 20 bucks. He also said the grates would continue to chip if using cast iron on them. I could prolong the life by using aluminum.

If it's any consolation, the grates on our high-end gas stove at home did the same thing. I chalk it up to the paint getting fragile when it gets hot, so that any movement of the pot on top of it puts it at risk. I do't worry about it any more and just live with it.

Yes, our Atwood enamel grates began chipping immediately while the enamel on our kitchen stove which gets tons of use are almost like new after 20 years!
I do not have cast iron, only stainless pans, so there is no heavy use. It is poor enamel installation to look good at purchase. We should not have to purchase new ones, which will also chip because the company makes a poor product. The lighter stopped working quickly and we replaced it. Again it does not work. Doesn't anyone make a good reliable product?

certainly nothing in my airstream is..
my grates are trashed. the clicker wont light the back burners. my cupboards are coming off the hinges,
my trailer is only 9 months old. stored for 4.
I regret buying it so much.
the guy next to me in the cheap Jayco is laughing at me
Airstream sucks

Why have regrets? There is no better time to sell than right now. I bet you would get back every penny you paid without too much effort.

Sell it, buy the Jayco and pocket the difference. Easy peasey.

If the warranty and Walbernize plan are transferable, then those are just extra selling points, especially to a local buyer.

If it is going to depress you every time you look at it, you should get rid of it for your own well-being. There is no better time to be a seller than right now.

Life is too short.
