Southeastern u.s. Fly fishing
We will soon be new Airstreamers when we take delivery of our new International 25RB in November. I was wondering if there is any group out there that does any kind of Fly Fishing trips (organized or unorganized) in the mountains of the Southeast U.S? We have joined Top of GA as our Local Club and I know it sits in the heart of North Ga trout country and I'm sure we will meet folks there that share in the hobby, but always looking for other suggestions. I have fished out west in MT and absolutely love it out there but a camping trip out there is not in the cards right now for us as we are primarily weekenders and short trip takers at least for now.
Thanks

Congratulations to your new acquisition and welcome to the Airstream community. Concerning fly fishing, I’m a newbie and learning, but really enjoy the challenge. I’m not familiar with your area. Our favorite state park with major fly fishing is Bull Shoals White River State Park in Arkansas. Beautiful area and good fishing. It’s about 640 miles from you. Also, Jerry (Docflyboy) here on the forums is an avid fly fisherman that may have knowledge of what you’re looking for. Good luck, stay safe and enjoy.

Join your local chapter of Trout Unlimited. They’ll give you some good info. Local fly shops should be a good source also. I’m an avid fly fisherman, and I find it to be a sport that pairs well with Airstreaming. Our last trip of the season before winterizing was right on the South Platte River. It was great.

Although fishing isn't for me, the waters around Helen are filled with rainbow trout and brown or brook trout, too. These links might interest you and I am sure Unicoi Outfitters is a source for all your answers except the intersection between fly fishermen and aluminum nuts. The Top of GA folks will fill you in on that aspect.

Also check with GA DNR (Dept of Natural Resources) for all the when and where regarding their trout stocking activities.

Welcome to the Airstream world! Some great rivers in Tennessee to trout fish. Tellico, Hiawassee, Ocoee and Caney Fork are my go to rivers. Great camping around each of them as well!

Join, if not already a member, Trout Unlimited and check local chapters for current local advice. Members are generally very accessible and forthright with their recent experience and advice.

Pisgah National Forest near Henderson, NC. Cherokee and Bryson City near GSMNP. Nantahalla Outfitters. Rivers Fork Outfitters. Streams on the Reservation are stocked; wild streams in the Park are not. Check out Straight Fork in one of the “back entrances” to GSMNP. Go into Cherokee, take Big Cove Rd up the mountain, turn right at the top and take the gravel road behind the reservation hatchery into the National Park. One of the prettiest wild rivers in NC. Rarely see anybody. Watch out for bears.

Smithgall Woods. Top 10 trophy trout stream. That area is very enjoyable. Forest service roads lead to many trout streams there

If you get the chance, put the West on your trip plans - fly fishing in WY, CO, MT, ID is the best around!

I’m going to jump in to. I concur that airstream and fly fishing go together. Actually I’m not sure if I have an airstream to reach my fly fishing destinations or if I fly fish because I have an airstream. Well, I do know that answer...after all, our trailer is named the Fly Fish Inn.
My next major target is going to be the fly fishing trail in North Carolina. Starting my planning now for next spring.

Thanks for all of the advice.
I'm an avid hunter as well. Will have my 2 year old German Shorthair Pointer in tow on our trips also, so if anyone knows any bird hunting spots let me know as well, although will probably have to make the trip out west for that!

Here's a pic of my wife fishing on our last camping trip of 2020. This is on the South Platte River, just north of Lake George, CO. I caught a nice rainbow that day, but my wife didn't have any luck. It was just so nice to be out on the river on a nice fall day. We camped about 40 feet from the river.

Great Pic Dennis, looks like fun.
Below is a pic of my daughter in the Madison River near West Yellowstone, MT this past June. It was not a camping trip, but a great trip nonetheless. We fished the Madison and the Gallatin on that trip. Caught big Rainbows, Browns, and the real treat was a cutthroat from the Madison that my wife caught.
Southwest Montana and the Yellowstone region are perhaps my favorite places on earth. Can't wait to do the trip someday in an Airstream in lieu of an Airplane, but I'll take the Airplane for now over not going at all!

Great pic!
I've done a great deal of fishing in Montana. It's one of my favorite places in the world too!

Watauga Dam-Tennessee
For SE US I recommend Watauga Dam Campground in Elizabethton, TN. We have made several trips there. The location is beautiful and the river out of the dam base is full of rainbow. My photos show our rig set up at the campsite and one of the rainbows caught in the river 50 feet behind our site. The water stays about 38 degrees and in August the air off the river feels like air conditioning. Here is a link to information:
https://tennesseerivervalleygeotouri...4-f035b134bf3c
It will be worth the trip. The lake above the campground is beautiful. The people are great-limited number of campsites. On our last trip they were expanding the size of the parking spots.

Fly fishing North Georgia
Our family owns a charter business in the Florida Panhandle and my som has a fishing podcast. We began looking at doing a destination trip to north Georgia with a few of our select clients. I am interested in any recommendations on guides or outfitters in the area that can be vouched for. We have met with and fished with some outfitters and have came to the area several times researching, but continue to seek input. Please let me know if you have any recommendations. Also any preferred campgrounds for our AS on these scouting trips.
