Some Advice

Hi,

We are buying our first Airstream with my wife and have been offered multiple options to include with the purchase. I wanted to ask someone with more experience if those options are really needed it.

6 Years but/bump coverage
Cilajet Ceramic coating
Tire and Wheel protection.

Any guidance will be very much appreciated

Thanks,

Javy

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

We have purchased two new 25FB's since 2005. I would not buy any of those options.

There is so much to upgrade once you own it those options would be # 332, 333, 334 on a long list.

There are several threads on each of those.

As Brian indicated the verdict is none of those pay out.

The warrantee is overpriced, you can get one after the sale much cheaper, and if you're handy you should get used to doing the repairs yourself, mostly so the trailer is not in the shop so long and for many of us the shop is so far away.

The coating is effective, but there are less expensive options to keep the trailer nice.

There are easy UV tire protection treatments for $10 from the auto store. If they could guarantee the wheels won't develop filiform corrosion under the clear coat, maybe that is worth it but it won't stop it so....

I'm with Brian on this one.

Delgaditos, I'm with Brian on this as well. Your new Airstream comes with a 3 year warranty so that covers everything inside.

Take some of that money and buy a good tire pressure monitor like the TST system. I went to the local Discount Tire near us and had them replace the Airstream rubber valve stems with Dill metal ones. The manager looked at our tires and said since they were almost new he would offer their Certificate for Repair, Refund or Replacement. So, I now have road hazard coverage with free replacement for any damage for a few dollars more than the cost to install the new stems and balance all four wheels and tires.

Check the forums for tips on waxing your Airstream. I use the Airstream recommended Walbernize . I like to wash and wax my trailer in the spring and fall. By doing it yourself you'll get familiar with the exterior of your unit and check for anything loose or damaged. Same goes for your tow vehicle

Good luck with your new Airstream and welcome to the community and forums!
Jeff

Welcome Aboard👍

Take the $$$$ for all those "must have" options, put it away and save it for all the things you feel you don't need now, but find you WILL need later.

Sweet Streams 👍

Txforetravel, we have a 27’ Globetrotter. I see you’re currently looking. What Airstream model / size are you thinking about?

Welcome to the forum!

FYI on the main desktop version of this site [not the App], the blue search box above works great. It is powered by Google, and automatically adds the search term "site:airforums.com" to look through all the posts here.

For instance, a search for "Cilajet" yields these results:

https://www.google.com/search?ei=bXn...4dUDCAw&uact=5

"Walbernize" -- https://www.google.com/search?q=Walb...=airforums.com

. . . and so forth. The search engines finds lots of info which is often spread all over the place here.

You could also add that search term to any search engine, I would guess. In the old days you might have had to add this:

"AND site:airforums.com"

Good luck,
