Roadtrip Must Haves???

Hello everyone,

I am sure you have all been here. You are planning for a trip and getting all your eggs in order. You have a limited amount of cash to spend on some new items to make the adventure more fun, exciting or smooth. What are some of your must have items that you are really glad you laid down the money for?

Here are some of my possible items on this trips list:

1. Bose Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker
2. Wifi Ranger Ti
3. Water Filtration system
4. Portable Grill
5. Espresso Maker
6. LaFuma Chairs

Haha! My girlfriend always tells me I have expensive taste, but really I am a tech nerd. I like to have all options available.

3. The trailer has a water filter for drinking water, but I take bottled water.

Your situation, your list. My situation is different. I will offer these comments though:

2) Wifi Ranger. The situations where having a ranger vs. not having the ranger makes a big difference will be rare. I have spent the $$$ for a verizon aircard and the related service. In 3 years I've only parked in two places where there's no coverage.

3) If you have a tight budget, just bring bottled water.

4) If you are a charcoal person, great, just get one of those folding campfire grill things and use the fire ring that almost every campsite has. Otherwise, spend the money to get a good propane grill, the cheap ones cook poorly, die young, and are impossible to clean. I recommend the Magma and I suggest you plumb it into the trailer's propane system. Best money I ever spent

5) One of those cheap aluminum things where the water boils on the bottom and comes out into a little pot on top will work fine

6) if money's tight use whatever you already have

Must haves.

Fishing poles and tackle for obvious reasons
Axe-even if you're buying wood you often need to split some of it
binoculars-I've forgotten them and wished I'd had them too many times

Split wood?
Well, I never...
Fishing poles and tackle are always in the trailer.
Binoculars are always in the trailer.
Wood is always in the bed of the pickup.
I have a couple of woodpiles at home to replenish after each camping trip.

An axe!!! Thank you! I always forget that.

I wish I had all of that come with my trailer, m.hony.

Unfortunately, I have no sound system, no water filter, and no chairs. Got to work on this. The main reason I want the filter is not for drinking but the keep the water lines from getting gunked up with mineral deposits. I replumbed the whole thing and want to keep it nice and clean.

This is what makes this forum great, the lists and the puns!

I have pretty much the same list Crabbey as you, kept I could only buy one Lafuma. Bought a Eureka High-back as a second.

We like our fake fire - fire dancer brand - it's a must for us

Portable gas grill

We forgot out patio may last trip and I was sooooo missing that!

iPhone

Lg tone plus blue tooth headphones to answer calls on road and for listening to music to myself a bit if wifey goes to sleep - also love these for backing instruction from my wife

Sun glasses

Insulated cup to keep my cold beverage on road nice and cold longer

Sun screen for the side of my body getting torched by the sun for hours

We are still trying to find camping chairs we like

No foodies here?

This was on our car-trip list when we went to Yellowstone 2 years ago.

A GOOD knife
ziplock baggies
Good cheese,
Pepperoni,
Smoked Salmon,
Grapes
Wheat Thins
Almonds
Beer, wine, real coke (Mexican preferred), and bottled water.
Openers and corkscrews.
Bottled Frappachino (roughing it in my book!)

This allows for great quick meals that can be eaten while driving or at a rest stop. I loathe fast food on the road. They also pack great in the backpack for day hikes.
