Riding in airstreams?

Does anyone ever ride in the trailer while its being towed? I feel like it would be not much different than being in an RV and if you lay on a bed there would be no chance of you falling. I know it might be illegal and stuff but if you close the blinds nobody will see you.

Welcome Aboard 👍

I have only done it to check for running gear vibration after installing Centramatic's and how/if the ride quality changed with differing tire pressures...

Would not recommend it as a habit.🥴

Border Patrol will probably look in your trailer if you come down to these parts although they probably won't care if you're not carrying suspicious cargo!

The reason it is illegal is because it is unsafe.

Lawmakers only turned their attention to making it illegal after a number of people were killed and seriously injured in accidents.

People riding in the back the trailer will move around, this shifts the weight around and causes the trailer to be more unstable.

A trailer shakes in shimmies much more than in a motorhome.

Please disabuse yourself of this notion anddon’t allow anyone, even your pets, to put themselves in such an dangerous situation.

It's a lot safer to mount a GoPro camera and record the motion.
I think someone trying to sleep in a rear bed underway would spend half their time levitating.

Check the list posted above and notice where it's legal to ride in the trailer. There is a stereotypical relationship between each state and "if it's a smart thing to do."

Also, search for pictures of wrecked trailers. Mobile Homes are heavy and reinforced, and the interior damage will likely be less in a crash. Trailers roll and fly through the air and crumple up like aluminum cans. I would not want to be inside that kind of a disaster.

Nice post of Lucy and Desi! Funny reality checks are expansive as not funny... but you get humor and experience.

As I tell our sons and their kids... “do what you will, but I can tell you now, it’s gonna hurt.”

So it's OK to break the law, as long as you don't get caught?

Oh the GOD's, back when trailers didn't have any tongue weight and you could slimp along without worry.🤔

Riding in airstreams?

If you haven’t seen the movie it’s worth watching. The movie makes many points as what not to do, with some knowledge of towing you can see how the uninformed get in trouble. The cars of those vintage years are probably equal to a three quarter ton vehicle today. If you want to watch the movie last I looked wasn’t available on Netflix etc. I ordered a DVD on Amazon years ago as well as a Robin Williams movie, good points in that one about dumping black tanks.

Something important to remember:
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
