Question Parking in NYC

I am looking for a place to park my 1979 Airstream Excella 28ft. in the New York City Area. I am willing to travel a bit if necessary but I'd really like to keep it covered and not open to the elements. Any help from anyone that has experienced trying to park their Airstream in a metropolis would be greatly appreciated. Any tips/tricks/places to look/etc. would be super helpful!

Are you talking about long term storage?

Small regional airports where private pilots store their planes. You may be able to share a hangar with a couple of planes. Industrial Parks with high vacancy rates (we have them here - Brooklyn?). You'd be looking for the kind of space an auto repair or heating & air contractor would use - big garage door and enough room to turn your unit. You can get a good deal IF (A) you'll take a short term "move out" period so that if they suddenly get a tenant who wants 20 bays you get out of the way OR (B) you take an inconveniently located unit - far end of a row near a high noise source like a freeway or a machine shop or fire station.

An abandoned fire station?

How about a church parking lot?
Churches are looking at creative ways to enhance the bottom line. Having people around is good security!

"Short term" (maybe even long term), you might be able to park it in the boat storage lot at Liberty Harbor in Jersey City. As to other choices I don't know. Have you done a Google search?

I'm thinking anything close would be big bucks

Indoor storage near Brooklyn??? How much are you looking to spend?

Ideas and thoughts.

#1 Some " U Store It " places in Jersey, rent spots to RVs. It won't be a garage, but they are safe. ( Cameras, security gates )

#2 you could luck out and find a struggling farmer, or struggling business, in Jersey that could use some money

#3 Maybe you could find a property owner on Craigs List

#4 I'm thinking that many who have a garage that will fit an Airstream, have their own boats, RVs, sports cars, or motorcycles in them, Or they simply won't need your money.

#5 If you were willing to travel about two hours into PA, you could find a RV park and work out an annual fee for a few thousand.

I am looking for a place to park it and work on it while I'm not traveling in it. Some really good ideas here, I'll pursue all of these options. Thanks everyone. And yes, I've been searching extensively but was looking for potentially more creative ideas from this community and that's exactly what I got. Awesome!

Just a follow up to my earlier post, I'll bet you could work on it in the Liberty Harbor (Jersey City) boat storage lot. I lot of guys work on their old boats in there.

I called liberty harbor and they would indeed store it outside with all the boats but they wanted $800 a month and I'm not allowed to move it when I want. They would treat it like a boat I guess. I found a place nearby for under $300, both would be outside. I am most likely going to park it outside until I can find a garage or some place inside.

Wow!. I'm glad you found an alternative. Looking at some of the boats stored there, I can't believe that folks are spending that kind of money to store them.

Just FYI: stored mine at a nice boatyard in Annapolis for a few months. It was moved around A LOT by the yard and often tucked in tight, behind a dozen boats - seemed to always be in a different place. However, if I called 24 hrs in advance, they would move it to a clear area/driveway. Without the call and move, access was a biotch. Not a scratch on it though (at least from the boatyard moves).

Wow. $800 a month? I wish I had room for yours at my house. I'd lease the spot for $750. :-)
