My boss had a 12 ft fibreglass canoe that he wanted to part with. He was kind enough to pass it along. We took it out exactly once. It was rolly polly in the extreme. Worst craft I have ever owned. So, certainly hope this 12 ft craft is well designed and proves to be a solution that is significantly beyond your expectation. Shiny aluminum should help. Good luck! Pat

We have an Alumacraft 17 ft that has been in the family now for 49 years and still going strong with no leaks. It didn't come polished and we did our best to keep it that way.

These people use a mold that produces a harder chine and a flat bottom. They call it "built in sponsons". I have a FeatherCraft 17 ft. aluminum canoe that looks like they used the same mold. It is exceptionally stable. These 12 ft. kayaks look a little narrower, but should be more stable that the 12 ft. standard rotocast plastic kayaks with the rounded bottoms, which I own. Aluminum canoes get some rough treatment, so I would not polish them.

I have a osagian canoe that was given to about 20 yrs. ago. They are well built. It has never been in water or LIC. Now I'm to old to use it so would like to sell it. I used aluminum canoes many yrs. ago before plastic or fiberglass. Did some racing in plastic canoes but they are tipsy at least. Bill

Bill; If it was GIVEN to you, than you should RE-GIFT it, not sell it. Bring it to M V.

Does anyone have experience polishing aluminum canoes? It's a different grade of Aluminum from AS skins, but I would guess the process for polishing would be very similar.
Received?

They are sitting in a Truck in Tampa. My daughter is home sick today, so called and offered to pick them up. I was informed they are going to a sub contractor for the last leg of the trip. They will ask the sub to call me when they unpack the truck. I might be able to pick them up this afternoon. Otherwise I'll have to set up a time to meet them at the house later in the week.. I hate waiting for my toys..

The use of a canoe or kayak is entirely different than a pristine trailer. My aluminum canoe shows I have used it with lots of battle scars. Polishing it would make it look a lot worse. IMHO canoes/kayaks are to be used and not a polished trophy collection piece. My Airstreams also show some travel scars.

Tho very expensive new, and I just missed out on a 15 y o used one near here that I bid $550 for. The storage and ease of transport of these very capable boats is very attractive, for a careful user.

These Osagian boats sure are an attractive well priced option !
Thanks for posting them.

Cheers Richard
Richard, Folbot appears to be out of business. We've recently picked up a Folbot Greenland II with a 32 sq ft BSD batwing sail. If you get one, make sure it's in good conditions, or be able to make replacement parts yourself. There is a pretty good folding boat forum that is a nice resource.

Definitely not Airstream-like but I ran across this company. I have no personal experience with them but if carrying a full size set of kayaks is not possible, they may provide an answer.

Our Kayaks came into by Semi Shipment. They look great. I'm very happy with them so far.

They appear solidly build, welded and riveted together. I hand them add their aluminum logo on the top of the front bulk head, it looks so very cool. I can't wait to get them in the water this weekend!

FYI Amazon has the My canoe and Old Town Next canoe that look the same. The My Canoe folds and the Next is poly or fiber glass. Just something that might be comparable. This gives the same style in 3 different materials

Silver, thanks for the photos. I was curious about which seat they would come with. Their advertising show two different styles. What is your first impression of the comfort of the hard seat?

Noticed the new logo placement and style, looks good.

AWchief,

I sat in the seat for a short while, while on land. Felt fine for the five mins I was in there. I was nervous getting in on land, but the Kayak did not seem to mind a bit. No creaking, or bending, tough little thing.

I love the Aluminum emblem. They normally come on the sides of the canoes, I special ordered them on the front bulkhead. Normally, the Kayaks come with a sticker logo on the sides. I will add the after I polish.

One of my coworkers has some short plastic Kayaks, and stated they waddle in the water, and don't track real straight. It will be interesting to see how these do.
