NY State said no to a vintage plate, Time for a letter campaign.
I just got off the phone with the NY State DMV custom plates division, and it seems they don't allow vintage plates on travel trailers at all.
Well, that just will NOT be acceptable for an answer.
I just posted a letter to my State Assemblyman (Philip Boyle) to see if he would consider bringing it up for a possible change to the state law in order to allow it.
Any other NY folks up for a bit of a letter writing campaign to try and bring some resolution to this travesty of justice?

Same in Mississippi, no vanity or vintage. Seems very common across the country from what my research has found.

That 1962 Anna plate is such. Great idea for dig vintage! I collected license plates for years as a child, that is really cool!

That's what I'm finding too, is that most states don't allow them for trailers. But yet they do allow them for cars and motorcycles.
So I wonder if it's just the sort of thing where really nobody's bothered to ask, and follow up to try and get it changed.
Hmmmm..... Maybe I need to start compiling the state by state data.

Here in California they allow YOM plates (year of manufacture), RIGHT? (I just got one off e-bay for my camper but have not yet started the dance with the DMV)

Here's the California application form, and they specify 1969 and earlier trailers are eligibile. Looks like California does not allow for repaints or restored plates, so leave it as-is.

Ontario doesn't do vanity trailer plates, but they do offer them for cars and light trucks. I asked the price a couple of years back, I think it was $140
Last time I checked, Québec didn't do either.

Vanity/vintage plates
I was so bummed when the DMV told me I could not have a vanity plate. I contacted Service Ontario to double check (the woman at the DMV seemed to be having a nasty day, she could have been saying no just for spite, had it happen!) anyway, Service Ontario said that I could do a vanity plate for the trailer if I got a commercial plate (this was by e-mail). Back to the DMV and asked for a commercial plate, they had no idea how to do this. I was also in the process of changing the year of the trailer since the DMV had originally registered it as a '68, it is actually a '62. This WAS accomplished with help from a letter from RV Canada (AS dealer). Anyway, gave up on the vanity plate. I think I will have one made special so Bubbles will have two plates. Found a place on the internet that will do a custom plate for approx. $30. She also has a prop plastic New Mexico plate that was added askew when she was rented by PO to star in a movie filming nearby.
Can't have everything I guess.
Why they won't do this is a mystery, I want to give them extra money!!!!

UMM...interesting.
We use the original 1953 NY plate that our 53 Ford was registered with. As long as it's an unused number they issued the registration. Have you asked about that option?

Antique/Vanity Plates for Travel Trailers
Illinois does not issue antique or collector vehicle plates for travel trailers, but we do have the option of purchasing vanity plates for our travel trailers. I have 78 MINI on my Arogosy and 64 AIR on my Overlander.

For cars and motorcycles it's no problem at all. But they don't allow it for trailers.

FWIW, Texas does allow vintage lisence plates, as of now. There was some discussion of disallowing them, but that issue didn't pass. Mine says 1954 Trailer.
Also available was 1954 House Trailer.
I have the phone number of the man in San Antonio I dealt with if anyone wants to PM me.
