Interesting things to look for every 200 miles.

I thought I would share my list of places to visit other than the obvious-nature, beaches, mountains, family.

Beautiful college campuses
Presidential Libraries
Plays in the area
Concerts
Symphony
Festival/Fairs
Museums
Stadium tours
Following PGA (husband for the golf, me for the beautiful courses)

What am I missing?

Brenda

Sporting events (doesn't have to be pro or college, either, many towns have high school games that can be every bit as entertaining).
Air shows (Blue Angels, etc.).
Factories (the Tabasco factory is a must-see if you're in that area).
Breweries and distilleries (some— but sadly not all— offer free samples!).

Weird tourist traps, Cracker Barrel restaurants, and scenic pull outs.

Interesting. To show how diverse this group is, I wouldn't do anything on your list while traveling, just not cultured I guess. To each his own. Enjoy your travels, we are all different.

I would add touring small towns and farm areas. Stopping at ma and pa stores etc to talk to the locals. Doing as much as possible to be like a local.

Avionstream, you are right! That is interesting. I thought that same thing the other night with a different topic. Those that move on a whim every few days without a plan or a thought through to those that move once or twice a year and plan every inch of the trip.
This list is in combination with lots of hiking, biking (beach cruiser style), citing walking, and pretty much eating our way across the USA.

There have been great ideas added here also. Thanks

Brenda

Architecture, history, old factory and farm machinery, old cars, airplanes and ships, Civil War sites, Cliff Dwellings in the Southwest, Early American settlements in the East, Presidential Libraries, beaches, forests and deserts, Navy bases (we're both retired Navy). Six to seven months a year on the road gives plenty of time, the rest of the year home at the lake in Minnesota.

Go to the state website to see what is available by date, i.e:

http://tpwd.texas.gov/calendar/fairs-festivals-and-food

Lots of choices! Of course, this method calls for work! But checking things out before departing sure opens up some surprises!!! jd

Thanks for the question and many great suggestions in response. We are on the Oregon Coast this week and recently enjoyed a delicious, and interesting, tour of the Tillamook Cheese factory on US 101 in Tillamook, OR. Delicious cheese and fantastic ice cream. Easy RV parking.

Things to do

Don't forget all the railroad rides. Adirondack Railroad, Smokey Mountains, Durango Silverton, etc. and countless RR Museums.
