I’m just a little rattled

Howdy and thanks for all the advice,
We joined this site in 2018 and we have been studying here ever since.
In 2018 we built a garage that could house up to a 30’ unit.
Since then we have casually watched the market and tried to learn as much as we could w/o actually having our own unit.

In 2020 we began shopping for an AS in earnest because 2021 is the year my bride will join me in retirement.
Yup, we started shopping in probably the biggest sellers market ever (?).
Anyone who’s shopped for any kind of travel trailer in the last year knows what I mean.
In October we sold our beautiful (7y/o) custom made tear drop for $2k more than we paid for it.

Based on our camping experience with our teardrop we chose to go with a 25’ AS.
We actively pursued two used units via AS Classifieds and lost them because we didn’t move as fast as the market.
Then last week we visited our daughter in Denver.
We thought we may come across “our” AS on the trip as we knew there were a couple units in the Denver area.

Out of desperation I started Googling states on our route home.

And there it was (cue the music of wonderment) a new FC 25 RBQ, exactly what we wanted.
Not only was it the floor plan we wanted but it had factory installed solar which is something we would have purchased after market.

Now that we are no longer lurkers where should we start on the forum?

And I just want to say thanks again!
Every step of the way on our journey toward purchasing we relied on information gleaned from the kind folks who share their knowledge on this forum.

You have already begun.

I suggest perusing the Forums and sub forums, reading any threads that are of interest to you, chiming in whenever you feel like it.

Welcome!

Mickey & Peggy,
Welcome to the fam'! My husband and I recently purchased our 2018 22FB Sport from a private owner in Denver (June). My husband has been retired for 5 years, and I will be retired in 3 months (counting every minute).

We were always tent campers when the girls were young as we could not afford a camper. Now that the girls have moved on (empty nesters for almost 20 years) we had dreamed of owning an Airstream and when Trilla came on the market she was ours in about a week, and this was our first "virtual" purchase ever.

We live in SE Wyoming which is known for hail so we stored our AS 150 miles north in the only enclosed storage we could find. In December we decided to buy a place 300 miles north of us that came with a house (lol!) and a 51x51 shop, locate at the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains, and close to the most beautiful spots to see in WY & Montana.

Surf the forum as you will find a wealth of information (watch out as you can get caught up in a worm hole in discussions!) This group is wonderful, respectful, knowledgeable, and fun!

I love the area you moved too.
I’ve visited the big horns years.
Congrats on your new trailer!
Hope to see you camping (another favorite camping area is boondocking east of Yellowstone’s north east entrance).

You beat the spring rush, and learned you have to pull the trigger quick, when one surfaces.
Nice find, have a good retired camping year!

If only I had mastered that skill.
I’ll have to use something beyond an iPhone to figure out how to
post pics.

Congrats and welcome aboard!

Likewise, I actually joined back in 2015, but didn't start watching the market closely until 2018 and 2019... March of 2020, traded my 4Runner for a Sierra, had two misses on 23FB AS, then a couple of misses on a few 28'ers, then the marked exploded. Many misses all spring and summer and fall. Shopped until November, when visiting the nearest dealership, they had what became our own 20FC.

Just start joining in on conversations, reading how people solve problems, etc.

Oh: pictures: click the "go advanced" button for a post, and at the bottom is where you can attach photos....

Tom it's just like attaching a document or a file. Sometimes you have to downsize or shrink it a bit so it doesn't turn sideways.

I'm not sure what ver. O/S your iPhone is running but the recent ones no longer store photos as *.jpeg files. iPhones now use a format that will not load to AirForums.

For me, the easiest way is to forward the photo (med. or small) to my email on a MacBook (or PC) and store it on the desktop. It will be *.jpeg/.jpg and that will upload with the 'paperclip' icon in the reply box, choose file, and upload.

Congratulations and welcome to the family. I have been researching for almost five years and joined this forum some time later. My story is very similar, was actually buying a 2021 FC30RBT when one "popped" up available very near to us. I m picking her up today, 2019 FC30RBT. Enjoy your travels and the learning never stops. See you on the road!

I just took this....

I’m running a 12 Pro, current iOS: it’ll upload, but sometimes is upside down... sometimes not...

I stay away from Yellowstone, Jackson, etc. Have lived in Wyoming for over 40 years now and every time I am in that area I feel like a foreigner! Not the same as it was back in the 70's. If you ever drop into the eastern side of the Big Horns, you will pass by my new place :0)

Great and welcome. I've had my fun with trying to get the iPhone picts to always display the way I want. I'm not an expert but I believe there is meta-data in the pict file that rotates it when you turn your phone around and that data stays with the photo. I use the 'preview post' 1st and then rotate the photo on my MacBook/PC to get it to post right-side up. I always try to keep the file size no more than 1 meg.

I'm sure someone here knows an easier way but that's been my solution.

The best thing for us was attending Alumapalooza and joining WBCCI. Then attended some rallies and did a Caravan. The people and hands on experiences were great. I feel our enjoyment of our Airstream has quadrupled because of doing this.

There's tons of good info nearly daily on the Forum. Since buying our first AS in 2012 and reading the Forum daily, I have amassed a substantial file of info that I either needed, or thought I might need in the future. When I see such a topic on the Forum, I send it to my email, and file it in my Airstream file. .
