People judge the hell out of you when they either find out you got a 2020 Airstream of any size, or if you tell them what you paid when they ask. At least in small town Southern Ohio they do.

I told my boyfriend to stop telling people what year it is when they ask because one of his coworkers got so nasty with him about it.

Sort of makes me want to stick a sign on it that says “my mom died and I bought this with my inheritance” ... I might have a little bit of a chip on my shoulder....

I don't mind if I think the person asking is interested in the Airstream. In that case, I answer it cost about the same as a mid-priced 5th wheel, I paid $57,000 plus my 5th wheel trade-in.

I usually tell people when they ask me that my business had a good month so I bought an airstream.

I tell people that my wife bought it for me and I learned a long time ago never to ask how much she spent on a present for me.

I would love to release that information but I’m currently being audited by the IRS.

I tell them that Airstream has been making these things so long and there are so many vintage units still on the road that they can just decide how much actual cash vs. how much sweat equity they want to put into an RV, and there will be one out there for them. Then I tell them the sweet spot for minimum sweat equity is actually a year or two old, because it's still under warranty, someone else has already sweated over getting the worst problems fixed, and those kind previous owners also ate a decent chunk of any depreciation the unit is ever going to see.

If they ask, I assume they think it's new and...

...I usually just tell them...knowing there is no chance in hell of them spending $32758.00 on a new one today.

Now that my Airstream Interstate is approaching 8 years old and the prices have skyrocketed in the intervening years since I bought mine new, I can safely tell people that it cost, "A little over half of what a new one would cost today."

I am not embarrassed to say what I paid for my Airstream or my Tow Vehicle. Not that I paid too much or too little... after writing the check. The dealer was robbed and so was I.

I complain more about the sales tax for a dozen doughnuts.

If I could recall what I paid... so be it. Any number I could come up with would not even be close.

Much like a good dream... you wake up and spend the rest of the day trying to recall why I even bothered to get out of bed.

Most of the people I encounter... ask me "Why did you not buy an Oliver?" I tell them I could only afford an Airstream and that was all we could manage. (Not really, but who cares?) I prefer to wear our old clothes when we travel. Just from appearances people just assume the Trailer is stolen and want to buy it from me.

This is great from Ray:

"Just from appearances people just assume the Trailer is stolen and want to buy it from me"

My sister in law was lecturing her 6-year son and said "settle down and act like a normal human being" his response was "what the hell is a human bean" so like that too.

Kind of interesting to see the comments and how times have changed as to what is rude and not. Guess old school etiquette has faded and perhaps that is OK, and a minor issue. Current environment where folks being more open to talk about medical issues I think is a good thing for example. Other still not IMHO.

-How much do you get paid?
-How big was your bonus?
-How much is your pension?
-Do you still have student debt, how much?
-Do you pay off your credit card in full?
-Do you have ED?
-What kind of cancer did you have?
-Is this your first marriage?
-Have your kids ever been in jail?
-Was your daughter married when she had her first child?

Just look on BookFace for the inside scoop. If you don't tell probably someone else in the family did!

I don't think so. Asking questions that are not any of one's business is still rude, no matter what the question is.

When I first discovered that I was diabetic, back in October 2006, I also discovered that both of my parents were diabetic, too. Had they told me when they first found out, I might have been able to get diagnosed sooner because I would have been alert to the possibility. And I might have an easier time today keeping mine under control. So yes, talking about one's medical problems, at least among family, is probably a good thing.

I never have been interested in using InYourFaceBook, and don't intend to start. Fully half the world's population has social media accounts, but half still don't. I'm part of the half that doesn't.

To be honest...

...'social' media is not really all that social.

Driven by $$$, 'profit media' would be more accurate.
You can tell by how TwitFace is run they care little about the social aspect.

Cheese and crackers got all muddy...for the last 40yrs they have given up 'social studies' in most high schools today, what should we expect, grown-up's passing it on to their off-spring? No social at home=not enough in society.

Less than a second home and I don’t pay property taxes on it. And I can go just about anywhere.

Interesting thread! I personally subscribe to the “don’t ask, don’t tell” camp. It is just rude and with the internet I can find the price of whatever I want pretty quickly...
I even made it a rule on a Facebook group I began about trawlers. It is amazing how often I have to gently remind people of the rule...

An inappropriate question. I’d probably say, “I’m not certain what they go for today” and refer them to the Airstream website.

More often, and I believe more appropriate, are questions regarding certain customizations (e.g. solar system, ProPride hitch, etc.). In these conversations, cost is in balance with features, operations, etc.

If it’s a polite question, I say “it’s paid for” and “yes, they still make them.” Then tweet them to the website.

Impolite, it’s “NYDB, with a forceful punctuation after it.
