Packing rubberstamping?

Kind of like a make-it-take-it workshop on wheels! And if I am not doing that I usually have my crochet hooks and yarn and thread along for some other project that I am working on. That is a little more portable than the stamps.

So, Loudruff, what and how you pack rubberstamping "to go"?
I like to quilt and scrapbook. Both of those hobbies are heavy! I intend to full time in about a year.

Welcome to the forums. Maybe you could "virtual scrapbook"? That is, scan or photograph the items you would put in a scrapbook, and you can incorporate it into a library on your laptop. When we fulltimed, we got pretty creative about saving space and weight in our hobbies.

Hi! Yes, rubberstamping is a great hobby but you need lots of "stuff". I usually pack up the stamps in flat cardboard stackable boxes. The kind that you buy fruit in. They stack together and have interlocking corners. I can stack the rubberstamps in a few layers in each sorted by subject. It takes 3-4 trays to keep me happy with my selections. I try and choose a theme before I hit the road. Ususally some airstream rubber stamps in the selection of course! The glue, ink, embellishments, scissors go into one of those roll around organizer bags and a rollable crate that I made. The paper goes into a music sachel that has dividers in it. Since I often go to a local nursing home to craft with them I have had lots of practice packing everything I need. We pull our trailer with a 15 passenger E350 Ford van so my hobbies usually store there til we get to somewhere that has space for me to spread out. The yarn and needles are usually in the cab or the trailer with me so I can stitch while we drive! Scapbooking would be alot of fun too. I have lots of stuff for that, but I don't usually scrapbook.

OK where did you find airstream ruber stamps????????? So far we have only been on pretty short trips, so hobbies still consist of reading, puzzles & TV or movies. But as we enter retirement and plan on being on the road more, figure I will also need to add more crafts to the to do projects. I was thinking that I could prepare a few "kits" - sewing, knitting, card making, ect. That way when we get ready to travel, I can just pick a project or more to throw in.

rubberstamps

I bought mine from a little company called Stamp As We Go. They had lots of different types of Airstreams to choose from. You can also google Rubber stamps+Airstreams and you will get a bunch of links from ebay and various places. I was just at JoAnn Fabrics this past weekend and found a bunch of camping stamps in that clear stamp rubber. The set included an Airstream design and a tear drop. Kind of cool. I have used my others to make flags, banners, tee shirts as well as cards and stuff. Good luck on your search.

A Fulltimer's Hobby :

This set is permanently stored under the couch. I can set up a small oval on the bed after mattress is removed. However, some campgrounds have a games room where I can set up the full layout.

The two 'O' gauge loco's are live steam and clockwork. Don't run the live steam in the trailer anymore after the "incident" --- it caught fire, the loco not the trailer!!!

I bet the kids and the grown men (kids at heart) love it when you pull these out at the campground. Never thought of taking them with us on the road. We use to run O gauge but switched to G scale about 10 years ago.

Sadly they've been boxed up since we moved back in 95.

Id like to take my Banjer( miss spelled on purpose) and or guitar, if I knew others would do the same. I have also thought of packin my ICOM 735 and Mobile antenna and check in to a few HAM service nets.
I havn't done either for a While. Sounds like a idea anyway.

Wow, Roger! We didn't know that you played. We would love to hear you play. Bring it next time! Maybe I can talk Loren into a flute or piccolo duet!

We do lapidary and just got a new (to us) smaller lap machine, thinking about taking it on the road. We'll see how that goes. Would be nice to polish some rocks when we get them instead of having to wait until we get home. It isn't very heavy, and it and a small folding bench could ride in the truck.

Yes, it appeals to the grown ups more than the kids.

Boxed up since 95 - scandalous!!!

Radio on the Road

I use this scanner/antenna tuner for listening in to amateur radio bands and shortwave broadcasts. Coverage 100 KHz to 1650 MHz.

I drilled through window frame to take coax outside to a long wire antenna.

Simple but can listen to the world.

Well, it's raining in Chula Vista, CA, at the Elk's Lodge.
We are here for the week. Came to fly our kites at Mission Bay with friends from the San Diego Kite Club.

So, it's time to get our the sewing machine and do some much needed repairs on a couple of kites.

That's what we've been doing on this rainy day.

Shelves full...

Wife and I like to collect bowling balls, ten-pin mostly. Although, we do like to pick up the odd 5-pin ones, too, since that's what was the most popular here when we were growing up.

On a rainy day, we polish them and then admire them in the trailer.

OK, OK, I'm kidding! I collect old tube radios, and although I have something like 150 or so here at home, I don't put any of them in the trailer, since they're mostly to look at or tinker with, and not to drag all over the country.

The nice thing about G is you can pretty much throw the track down on the ground, and the trains will run. Maybe next Spring you can put your stuff up in the backyard...

Note to myself. Ten years ago would have been 2005. Time for me to take that math refresher I've been putting off.

I know. The model railroad elders would not take kindly to my neglectful ways.

I used to set them up in our garden are around the pool when the kids were small. Now I look at the boxes every time we go in and out of the garage. These days I have two vintage trailers occupying my hobby time and so the trains sit there waiting until motivating force moves me to unwrap them.

Sorry we missed you guys after the 4CU rally!

Jim, Rod:

It was great meeting you (finally) at the 4CU Pirate rally in AZ... I've taken a recent assignment overseas and will be missing out on AS fun over the next year or so.

Margaret and I intended on getting together before I left but time got out of control...

Here's some shots of the NM Unit rally at White Sands last March. There were about 10 rigs and we had a great time.

Looking forward to linking up when we get back and cooking up some good chow!

Take care,
