Yikes! Sorry to hear.

I've had few problems with the FaN. Maybe because it was rolled out on the longest day of the year and they had oodles of daylight?

You’ve made a tow vehicle with potential serious design issues into something that has worked well for you. It most likely too effort and $$$ if it followed the 6.0L course.

The airstream has its own set of quirks, who’s idea was this, expenses and more.

It takes some of the same determination, sweat, creativity and $$$ to make it your airstream.

I apologize again and wish you’d reconsider dropping this unique group of like minded owners.

Airforums has a wealth of knowledge and some other stuff.

Looks like tonight I fell into the other stuff.

I understand your analogy, I didn't at first, sorry if I overreacted. I just thought it was a 5.9 fanboy crack. I have no brand loyalty by the way. Zero.

Truth be told I would rather have a Cummings 5.9 then a 6.0 PSD but I don't get to make that decision. The last of the 3/4 ton diesel SUV's was my truck, none since have been made.

The 6.0 had many issues, but there are fixes and upgrades, my truck has already had the work done and is going to Mesa AZ for additional work. The reality is, and anyone with many miles can tell you, its not a blown motor that gets you, its the peripherals, the tire, the alternator, the frozen caliper, the blown radiator hose...

What I don't agree with is somebody buys a $90k trailer and has many issues that are missed by both the factory and dealer, I'm talking issues that would have been caught with the simplest quality control program.
I think Airstream should have a lifetime warranty for factory defects. I am not asking for a lifetime warranty for everything, just for things that were built wrong. As in it rolls of the line broken.

Same goes for the Ford 6.0 PSD. I see no reason when somebody should be to blame for catastrophic engine failure 10k miles into their new truck they paid $50k for. No consumer should have to burden a manufactures shortcomings. Granted you make a point buy a used truck with known issues is the consumers fault, but I did so with the intent to install the appropriate fixes.

By the way, I looked into having a 5.9 installed in my Ex, the tranny works off different RPMs. By the time you do it right, you could be into a new truck.

If I had the time, I would start my own adventure travel trailer manufacturing company. The industry standards are pathetically low, nu- acceptable. I would never allow that.

I do love my trailer for the memories it has brought us, but I will never by another. If you took all of Warren Buffets investment advice and did the exact opposite, you'd be buying an RV.

By the way, I do all of my own work. Every system, every component. I think you have to if you ever want a trailer where everything works.

Every trip something breaks, granted we do 3 week trips. So I guess in that regard maybe you are right. If you buy an RV expect everything to break.

Ted,

I'll have to just wish you luck. I've never worked with or on an inverter or the custom wiring and seeing the job would help understand your predicament.

I have done a bit of wiring for myself and the rats nest under my sofa and at the stereo really shows the not built for friendly servicing, haphazard is kind way to describe it.

My last two trips had PITA issues too. My original convertor quit on a week long camp last oct had to go buy a stout battery charger like i needed another one. Now its carried as a spare. It did work for the about 5 days needed. And after our first good hard freeze this winter I found out that the shower head handle somehow had water in it, froze and cracked while i'm standing there ready to hop in. New handheld shower head in antique bronze whatever and about $50, back in business later that AM.

This is a really long shot, cable access and fuse access really bad? Can the cable be disconnected and pulled from B back to A? If possible maybe attach a new cable with fuse in better spot and use existing cable as electrical fish tape to pull new cable in place. Significant long shot.

I owe you a beverage.

Gary

Furnace Wiring short

2004 30' Airstream with slide. Problem, when I first brought it home was the furnace would work one time, but other times not. Mostly not. My troubleshooting revealed damned butt connecters causing short. Now that wasn't the real problem. That was a result.
Result of some shop taking off zip ties and letting the wires flop. After time, the butt connecter quit making contact. Replaced connecter, then zip tied wires so that nothing moved.

I learned in the military (maintenance) that any wire that has 6" span without a tie or grommet, is a short in the making. So I cut it down to 2".

Never heard of an Airstream that was overloaded in weight from zip ties.
