Purchased at Dometic CFX28 portable refrigerator to replace my ice coolers. My last cooler was a 26qt Orca, a Yeti like cooler. While it holds ice longer I found I'm still buying ice more than I'd like to when the weather is hot. We primarily use it to store beverages. The CFX 28 is similar size but taller and narrower. It can be powered by 110V or
12v. Received it just before this weekend trip. I plugged it into the Airstream's outside 110v and it went from 88F to 37F within 1/2 hour. Put some beer and water in it and it kept it nice and cold. Took it inside for overnight. On the tow back home plugged it into the truck's
12v receptacle and it went from 45F to 37F within 10 minutes. The compressor runs until about 36F then stops and then comes on when the temperature gets to 39F. If you want to freeze food you can set it as low as -8F depending on ambient temperature.
The front panel has a temperature read out, settings for C of F display and battery state setting when the fridge will shut down when a particular battery voltage is reached. On high it shuts down when battery voltage is 11.8v, medium 11.4v and low 10.1v. Default is 11.8v.
The interior is smaller but the ice takes up a lot of space in the Orca.
The first test will be to leave it in the trailer connected to
12v and see how much it draws down the batteries each night and to see if the 200w roof solar can recharge the batteries back to 100%.
Photos show the Dometic with the Orca. I put a 12pack of bottled beer in the main chamber. The wire basket can be removed.
If ever my main fridge fails I've got a back up to store food items.
