Decals on an Airstream

We are looking at an 1997 Excella that has Decals on the side. I believe they are factory. I have only seen one other airstream like this and the owner was having a hard time selling it. Does having decals hurt the value of the camper? The rest of the aluminum doesn't look as shiny as our previous camper. Is there some coating they put on them?
Thanks!

Not mine so I don't have any photos. But it looks like a big Nike Swoosh on the side. I have also seen them with a dolphin design.

I would say that yes, a big decal on the outside of your trailer is going to reduce your resale value, or at least reduce the number of potential buyers to the people who don't mind/want a big decal on their trailer.

Removal might be possible, but the exterior skins are plasti-coated, so there is a gamble as to whether the decals could be safely removed without damaging the coating. Even if this can be accomplished, there is a good likelihood that you would see the ghost image of the decale, just like you can see the ghost image of WBCCI numbers that have been removed.

good luck!

I think the LTD versions have a reddish factory swoosh. Then there is the Norman Rockwell edition with that giant graphic.
Not aware of a dolphinish graphic.

The "swoosh" decals on the side are factory original. The were definitely part of in the Limited package in red from about 1994 thru 1997 or so. I think I may have also seen them in blue on some other Airstreams from this time period, but not all. They may have been an option. It would take more investigation to confirm. I doubt their presence or removal of factory original decals affects value.

In contrast, the presence of non-factory decals would hurt value for most potential buyers in my opinion, but might increase value for a smaller subset of potential buyers depending upon the content of the decals.

Why not give the factory at Jackson Center a call. I'll bet they know who knows the history of the specialty editions of various Airstreams.
