City Parks

This is our 5th season with our AS and we have honed our preferences somewhat. We have decided we aren’t fond of commercial RV parks, and are growing somewhat frustrated with state and federal parks. Our absolute favorite camping area is a beautiful city park on the Columbia River in Central Washington. Paved parking, lots of nice green grass, plenty of access to the river for swimming, kayaking, etc. Full hookups with very reasonable pricing.

Unfortunately a young entrepreneur has also discovered this park. He purchased some used RVs, gobbled up as many of the reservations as he could, parked the RVs there and put them up on something like VRBO. Now the park is flooded with folks who have never been camping, no nothing about campsite etiquette and the camp host is too placid to deal with it.

However we really like the city park experience and got to thinking that this must not be the only nice city park on a body of water in the Pacific NW. does anyone know of another such park that we might check out. Preferably in W Montana, N Idaho, Washington or Oregon. Not ruling out BC or Alberta but going to hold off going to Canada until the COVID issue dies down.

Unfortunately that situation seem to becoming more and more common. IMO it is be cause of the Pandemic (people can be outside) and secondly the cost of hotel rooms in resort areas. I am now booking 6 months to a year out when only a few years ago I could book few weeks to a month out.

The quality of city and county parks is highly variable. The degree of regulation (as you have found) is also all over the place. There are a number of them out there. Drawing any sort of general option is tough.

Exactly. Which is why I was seeking up to date personal recommendations rather than just snooping around on a map or the internet.

Thanks Brian. That's exactly the kind of response I was hoping to get. The park in Boardman looks interesting. Ironically it's only about 25 miles further from our house than Entiat City Park which is where we have been going.

Brian we have been at the Boardman City Park for the past two days and absolutely love it. What a gorgeous place. Our dogs have been swimming in the river ever day, we finally got them trained to ride in the trailers behind our bikes and the water is still warm enough to paddle board. This place is neat and tidy and very quiet. Thanks for the tip. We will be back often.
