Kinda like finding a parking spot at a national park visitor center or point of interest. Drive around, drive around and hope for a bit of luck.

Same with the rest rooms. Stand in line and wait your turn.

Many national parks were not designed for the visitor loads they are now receiving. Zion may have it right. Park outside the park and take the shuttle bus to the points of interest. Jump on another bus to the next point of interest. No parking worries.

I have an Airstream friend who does an excellent job of finding nice, out of the way places to camp and visit. You won't find them in a crowded national park.

Hi

We are sitting in an absolutely terrific COE site outside Little Rock ( Maumelle). It's got both reservable and walk in sites. The walk in's are maybe 2/3 full and the reservation sites are < 1/3 full. Different loads in different regions .... You gotta love the COE pricing with the discount pass ....

Hi

I've been a very big fan of COE campgrounds for at least 50 years running. I will admit, Maumelle is over the top, even for them.

Now, if you could just buy beer in Arkansas on Sundays ....

Welcome to Texas Bob!

Don't know what your travel plans are, but tropical moisture is predicted to bring heavy rains along the Gulf Coast this week.

Hi

We're visiting friends north of Austin. It's a bit rainy, but otherwise not to bad. It's certainly not as hot as some of the places we've been in the last couple months.

The one thing that amazes me every year is how traffic drops off after Labor Day. The campsites are empty, the roads are empty, even the run through various major cities is (relatively) empty. Much lower stress .... (yes, there are still a few jerks on the road ...).

Well, since the RV manufacturing sector is on fire, and manufacturers, including Airstream are expanding manufacturing capacities, it should come as no surprise that all these new RVs flooding the market have to park somewhere to camp.

Also, you may find storage also becoming harder to find/secure as a result as well. I know that service needs to be booked well in advance lately as most dealerships and even the Airstream Factory Service Center gets filled up pretty quick.

Hi uncle bob: That is exactly why we travel in the spring and fall of the year. So many family are tied to the school year.

Maybe someday we will have a school schedule like some European countries. I understand they have month long breaks during the calendar year, not all lumped together like we do in the USA. I also understand our schedule was developed at the onset of public schools so kids could help on the farm during the summer. Maybe that's an old Iowa farm wives tale.

Have a safe and low stress trip.

Hi

One of the amazing things traveling around in the summer - some places go back to school *early*. The idea of school starting the first week of August ... yikes !!!! We watch it mainly to be alert for school zones.

Indeed, early school schedules (even in Europe) were set up recognizing the labor requirements associated with harvesting crops. I can't think of many things that are done harvesting by the end of July

=====

Indeed, staggering school timing would be one way to free up campgrounds ... getting back to being sort of on topic

One RV shop had a 3 to 4 week wait for repairs this summer; another one week. Te One week guys were better at repairs. But yes, appointments are harder to get.
