Larry, I did the same thing a few years back and had to replace the window. I remember saying some of the same things you did. Several years before that in my old truck I pulled into the garage with the rear window up and the handle on the rear window caught the garage door and before I knew what happened, the handle was ripped off and the door was tweaked but fixable. I chalk it up too being preoccupied with an overload of tasks. I guess that’s just a fancy way of saying, ‘senility might be creeping in’. A third time would not be a charm!

My husband did the same thing in May. We took it to a local place in AZ and they rigged it up for us quick and cheap. It's not right but good enough. It only took them a couple hours and we were able to keep our travel plans.

Final Chapter

Final chapter. The new window assembly arrived this week and was installed this afternoon. My installer pushed A.R.E. and it worked. Cost of my blunder: $400 Value of lessons learned: Priceless

Don’t worry, there are those that have and those that will. I did the same thing with bicycles on top of my car. I damaged my car, the bike rack, the bikes, and the house all in one go.

Yes, they are. One of the reasons I went with ARE. I lived 20 miles from Amish country for 20 years and had kitchen cabinets crafted out of cherry. You would not believe the workmanship...especially compared with Airstream. I am very happy with ARE...buy American!

I used a piece of plexiglass as a rear window. The prior owner of the cap did what you did before I bought it off him. I beat the frame straight enough and cut the plexiglass to fit. That was 6 years ago and it's still in there LOL 😅

I did the same thing myself, left the window up and backed into the garage. When I got the new window installed it was actually more secure and tighter than the first one so I came out ahead in the end, good luck with your trip.
