Big Rear Door: Only on the Pendleton/NP?

I'm not sure where this post belongs, forum-wise, but is the Pendleton/NP model the only Airstream with the large rear opening door?

No. Any of the Eddie Bauer based models (like the current Tommy Bahama 27) have that rear hatch.

For brand new AS, only the current Tony Bahamma model has the rear door.

Previous models include the Eddie Bauer and Pendleton models, which are the same layout and size of the TB model, just with different interior colors and appointments.

There is also the legendary Pan American trailer, of which, I believe, only 19 were ever produced. At least one was converted to a rolling store for some company. Ben Afflick owns another. And as far as I know, the remaining will likely be nearly impossible to procure.

The PA was the AS toy hauler, a 30 footer with the back third being a "garage" for your bikes, etc.

Theoretically, one should be able to take just about any AS trailer and install such a door yourself or have it done professionally.

Here's further information on the Airstream Panamerica 34, a triple-axle toy-hauler:

https://www.rvusa.com/rv-guide/2009-...plan-34-tr4189

The two of them that I've seen were both used by bikers, one for a Harley and the other for a BMW.

Ok thank you.

So, other than the Panamerica, all the big rear doors are cross branded efforts?

Those PAs are absolutely cool, but wouldn't the weight of a Harley (or similar) that far back of the axles seriously reduce tongue weight?

The rear door should be an option on any model where the banquette (sp?) is located in the rear, IMHO. For that matter, why couldn't it be installed on rear bed units? I'd certainly pay for that option (were I looking for a new unit).

Correct. I believe these years are correct:
Eddie Bauer 2012-2016
Pendleton 2016
Tommy Bahama 2017-current

The coach was originally sold as an empty shell to a chemical testing company. They built it into a mobile lab. The second owner had a traditional RV interior installed. It is rear bedroom-center bath set up. The read door opens to the back of the dresser drawers. We just bought the coach so we may make some changes but have no firm plans at this point.

The coach was delivered with a Cummins diesel and Allison transmission, the first known sold by Airstream.

From roughly 1982 to about 1991 Airstream also put rear doors on custom motorhomes designed to be used as "funeral coaches."

You can see some of those at

We were pretty seriously looking at a Tommy Bahama, just for the rear door. But we went with a Serenity for the extra seating. I mentioned this to the salesman while we were looking, and he said that Ultimate Airstream could do one... For a little more than $10,000. So it IS possible.
