Airstream SUITCASES?

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to see if anyone has seen these before, I picked them up recently and don't really know anything about them?

They do not appear to be new/repop(the cases themselves are old, based upon the handles/clasps/interior.

I was maybe thinking they would be used by a sales guy perhaps? The smaller one fits nicely inside of the bigger one.

I'm also wondering if they are made out of the airstream material? but not sure how to tell that...

Thoughts anyone?

Airstream SUITCASES?

Fascinating bit of history. Where did you find them? The LA area plant is long gone.

Appear to be made of aluminum, which is very appropriate!

Maybe these were a promotional item or an early version of the current sift case full of data that comes with a new one nowadays.

I found them on Craigslist, I'm a bit of a freak with collecting vintage gear for our 1985 845 MoHo (The Magic Bus).

I tend to go for the retro coolers, glasses, Zip Dee chairs etc.. So when I found these in Phoenix, I couldn't resist....

Those are very nice. I would really be interested in knowing their history.

The Airstream Dreams decals do not look old, though the suitcases might be old. Interestingly, Vintage Trailer Supply originally operated under the name Airstream Dreams, so perhaps the decals and repop serial number plates (or the full suitcases) came from them. After Airstream objected to their using of the name "Airstream", they changed their name to Vintage Trailer Supply. That name change probably happened 12 to 15 years ago.

Thanks for the info Joe !

The decals are interesting... you can't see the edge of them, whatever they used to 'clear coat' (???) did an excellent job of keeping the edges down. Also, with all the damage to the outer part of the cases, the decals are damaged too...

Do you know ? were these AIRSTREAM DREAMs decals ever an official logo? if so, when was it used?

Thanks !

Todd

I am changing my theory based upon some Google searches!!!!

A Google search for "Airstream Dreams logo" turned up a Facebook Community centered in Australia using the exact logo that is on the suitcases:
https://www.facebook.com/AirstreamDreams/

And here is a T-shirt using that exact logo that is currently for sale online:
https://home.wish.com/product/airstr...true&share=web

And here is a page with a logo design contest for "Airstream Dreams" with the logo on the suitcase being named the "winner":
https://www.freelancer.com/contest/L...f&ngsw-bypass=

It appears that this contest was run 8 years ago (i.e. about 2012), so that destroys the Vintage Trailer Supply theory as that would mean the logo was only created 8 years ago.

BTW, I found online that the orginal Airstream Dreams changed their name to Vintage Trailer Supply in 2005, well before this logo was created.

They look like they could be "Zero Halliburton" suitcases with Airstream decals applied.

Fascinating !!! Thanks Joe and HIHO too !

I'm not sure, but I 'think' that logo contest might have been for an Airstream Dreams Instagram page... That service was also started in 2012, at least they are using the logo. ;-)

I'm not sure exactly what we'll use them for, loadin/out for sure, and they might make good end tables for my scotch while sitting under the Zip Dee Awning in our Zip Dee Chairs ! Hot Diggity Dog !

Thanks for all the great info friends !

Very cool regardless of where they came from. Nice vintage edition. If you display them at a show I would certainly put a cord attached to them :-)
