I hear you about the obsession to keep things as nice as new, that's an issue if it get in the way of having fun too.
I tend to go the other was, using things and try to keep them up myself. But they do get warn by the use. This does keep me busy, and is getting harder to enjoy as getting into my 70s does intrude on the pleasure of crawling around under vehicles.
It's all a ballence we have to adjust to as we age and want to enjoy what we do for fun.
In trying to have fun there is no doubt that things do require work to be kept up, I guess I'm lucky to enjoy the using, and still try to keep up with the maintaince
