Airstream Land Yacht - It's Back

Airstream Brings Back the Land Yacht. - Driver's Seat - WSJ

I can't afford one, but I like the addition to the line. Gorgeous.

News travels fast...Here's another take on the same article...

Airstream to Build Luxury Land Yacht Trailers | RV Business

Was there really any doubt?

IMHO, that's about the best looking interior ever - a true definition of the model name, 'Land Yacht'...

Kudos Airstream, well done, with the exception of those 'hanging' furnace outlets - maybe they will refine that part a bit...

Direct from the AS...

Still has Series 24 batteries. I wonder whether it still has the same one stage converter? How about solar? Not much counter space, though the same as the FC 28'. LT or ST tires? Ducted A/C is a good change, but the ducts on our furnace create a lot of noise, so these may too. Seems like mostly cosmetic changes, but underneath, not much different than less expensive models.

Finally a "True Land Yacht" Would only change the "Serving Counter " so there is a split so you could lift that folded portion up to gain access to the sink. Love it. I want one !

Good question. I don't know the answer. I do know that when it comes to style in cars, it is hard to beat the tradition of the Italians. And those Riva boats are kind of like nothing produced in the USA. Maybe they just have a flair for such things?

OTOH, A/S has used Christopher Deam extensively.

I believe the Good Old USA can match anything that Riva and the Italians can produce.

As to the StanCraft boats -- I think their own tagline says it best: "A Passion for the Past." I'd call that design a revivalist type design, not a contemporary one. Nice looking boats though!

I love Modern as a design statement, but the photos look a bit austere and slightly bland. Maybe it will look better in person. And as Gene says, some of the technicals remain the same as always.

The SOB's are equally silly though. I was reading the specs on a 30+' trailer with 4 slides and lots of other have to's these days, and it only had 1 group 24 battery. Amazing, guess they are made to always be plugged into power.

As for the "engineering" stuff, like better power systems, I don't count that as the kind of "design" that is being sought from the Christopher Deams and Italian designers for the Land Yacht. This is strictly appearance and layout stuff.

Sure, I'd love to see the engineering improved too. I can add a list of stuff I'd like to see improved.

Some people love smooth, sleek and contemporary, and some like "Kountry Kottage Kutsey." I assume AS will continue to serve both tastes.

What should be good news for all of us is that there is fresh demand for high end trailers, and AS is meeting the challenge!

Here is an answer from Airstream in regards to the new Land Yacht Concept:

Unfortunately, no actual details are available yet on the Land Yacht. We do know that the MSRP will be around $150k and production will start later this year in July/August. You can find your nearest dealer on airstream.com. Please contact them and make them aware of your interest so they can get you better details as they come about.

Thank you for your interest in Airstream.

$150k sure makes an International seem like a bargain.

Prototype at Palm Springs Modernist Show

Just chiming in. Saw the prototype in Palm Springs 6/7 weeks ago. Some nice finishing on the cabinets, floors, and overheads. Very updated hardware. I like the layout.

Unfortunately the model had been severely looked at, and was held together with tape, and a number of items were afterthoughts.

Hoping the finished production model is better quality controlled.

OH, the floors, amazing, especially if you have no intention of every walking on them. They looked great.

150K. How would you like to pay that and then start finding filiform corrosion everywhere you look? Wonder if they've taken any steps to try and prevent that?

I wonder if it will leak like many of the heavy flexing classics. I guess w/o the leaks it would not truly be an A/S.

But in this case the teak wood floors should stand up better to water intrusion.

Cool....
