The Club issued a booklet a few years ago to Club members listing all the Airstream only parks with descriptions and contact info. We have one...

The rate you mention is actually $1,150.00 annually for "Shareholders" only. You can leave you AS on the site all year long if you like but are limited to 6 months or so of occupancy. Electric is extra as well as cable/internet if you want them.

If your not a "Shareholder" you can pay a 1 time fee of around $1,500.00 and purchase an "Annual Lease" for $1,770.00. Again, you can leave your AS on site all year if you like but are limited to 6 months of occupancy. Electric/cable/internet extra. This is the plan we use and have used for the past 4 years.

If you have an SOB I believe the rates are $700.00 per month for a 30 Amp unit and $820.00 per month for a 50 Amp unit. I think that includes electric.

There are approx. a dozen or so folks that stay year round at the park.

The rates were revised this year as a result of some nice upgrades to the electric and other infrastructure investments.

There is a Daily rate but I do not know what it is.

This is a fantastic bargain and a really nice place to winter in Florida. Clean, lots of nice folks, every spot has a 10x9 metal shed with electric and water (you can put a washer and refrig in there and have lots of additional room) and best of all NO PETS. Not everybody likes to listen to dogs barking and lets face it not all pet owners clean up after there pet.

In a normal winter season there are more than 200 AS in the park and the balance aree SOB's. Many Canadians comes here for the winter. Great place.

Are you a member? How do you become a shareholder? I don't expect that this is publicly held so there are a limited number of shares owned by the existing members, but are there additional shares and how many do you have to buy to be a shareholder?

It looks like a pretty good deal. I visited the site and watched the videos. I noticed that no one has their awning deployed. Is there a rule against that?

Each shareholder gets the right to one space. Shares can change hands at a market price - shares for sale are existed on the clubhouse bulletin board (I can't say if/where else they may be advertised). Since the sites are pretty much identical there isn't much difference in price - the winter before last there were perhaps a half dozen or more listed from around $6,000 to $9,000. A couple of people we met who recently bought a share paid around $6,000 (but this was two or three years ago). The share sale is recorded by the office and it's not a real estate transaction. A shareholder can change a site as I recall if both parties are mutually agreeable.

Shareholders receive an annual dividend as well. Several years ago, the dividend was increased to $200 however I was recently told there was no dividend this year likely due to the improvements to the site.

No, we are not "Shareholders". We chose to pay the higher annual rate simply because at some point in time we may want to go elsewhere for the winter and not have to sell a "Share".

Call the LYH office and someone there will be glad to answer your questions in detail.

There is no rule against deploying your awning. Picture may have been taken on a windy day. Just like anyplace you stay with your AS it is advisable to retract your awning if your going to be away any length of time.

As I stated LYH is a really, really nice option for wintering in Florida.

If you are a member of the airstream club, you will find a list of airstream parks in the classifieds section of the Blue Beret. If you're not a member, give it a try.

Fortuitously, I found this list of Airstream Parks just this morning as I was cleaning out some detritus from our last trip. I *think* I may have gotten it from Arbogast Airstream in Ohio last month when we traded in our Safari 25FB for a Classic 34. That said, I can't attest with any confidence as to its age.

How do you define snobs?

A snob to me is someone preoccupied with their social status and appearance irrespective of other factors, and especially irrespective of their own life accomplishments, of which there often aren't any of note. But not everybody uses the same definition.

I focus on the other factors, not the appearances. Each one of us enjoys conversation and friendship with our peer group, no matter which lifestyle we choose. Is that enough to make us snobs?

- I have a Master's degree in science.
- My husband is an aerospace engineer and a licensed mechanical engineer.
- I have run my own regulatory consultancy for 15 years, selling intellectual services.
- My husband is a flight controller for the International Space Station.
- Texas Airstream Harbor members include specialty medical professionals, a real estate investor, an IT specialist, a distinguished military officer (retired Master Chief IIRC), with an unrelated Lt Col (retired) also petitioning for membership at the moment.
- We also have an architect, an ER nurse, a successful attorney in private practice, an owner of multiple commercial farm ventures, and numerous other technical business owners among the members.

I don't give a hoot about brand fidelity, but six-figure Airstream products tend to attract educated, skilled, accomplished, self-made people disproportionately. Such people tend NOT to be buyers of cheap mass-produced plywood boxes on wheels, but at the same time, they have no interest in superficial, snobby appearances.

It's a sorting mechanism, in other words. All of the professions I listed above area occupied by people who love to learn, and who never stop learning. When I meet someone new, I want to learn from them - that's what makes it fun. If such people were hauling around Cruiser fivers, then I would go seek out Cruiser fivers. But they tend to be hauling or driving Airstreams.

Good post uraljohn. One side note: each shareholder has one vote per share of stock owned. Direction of the park is important to us in our retirement scheme.

Been on enough caravans to know that 34 Airstream couples together in the best spots in a tight campground or in a restaurant can provoke some hostility. Never been called a snob but one person that could not camp where he wanted to called us a “bunch of damn swells”. Maybe he had some English origins?

Airsteam Only park?

Just stayed 1 night at the Top of Georgia Park. The drive from I-75 over to Helen was a nail biter for the wife.
What a great place to visit, Peter the host and his wife were great. Met several nice folks and would recommend anyone too visit and stay longer.Click image for larger version

Let me make an attempt to unpack some of what might be represented there.

In my observation, people in general tend to be divergent in how they approach retirement. Some people use their freedom to explore new areas of purpose and meaning that they were denied during the life stage when they were compelled to keep working out of financial necessity. They find new direction in family pursuits (especially grandchildren), or the church, or nonprofit involvement, or some other form of social service that is a passion for them. And on top of that, they also enjoy their recreational pursuits such as Airstreaming. But the point is, there’s diversity and balance to their lives.

Some people retire and... don’t do very much. It’s painful for me to watch - why be successful enough to accumulate enough resources to retire, and then just kind of sit there and jack around with indulgences?

The latter group tends to conflate the importance of trivialities, for lack of other options. Because they have built less value in other areas of their lives, they have less purpose, they tend to over-value things that should be sidebars. If the main thing that some couple has going for them is Airstreaming, they will be more inclined to blow things out of proportion, like how shiny the danged thing is, or how choice the campsite is, or how rigorously other people adhere to some utopian vision of what it is to be an Airstreamer.

They tend to over-do the Airstreaming facet of their lives, for lack of balance with other facets, in other words. And they can come off as very snobby as a result. But the snobby is a derivative of unbalance more than it is a root issue. If they would take up some meaningful activity and serve humanity in some satisfying way, rather than just serving their recreational goals, the corresponding snobbiness would probably fade.

Heh heh. Do I maybe sound like a voice of experience? Ask me how I know this.

I’m interested in forming relationships with a different breed of Airstreamer. Hence my mention of all the educated people who are far less interested in trappings and more interested in a quality but more minimalistic approach to life.

The information about the Airstream only parks used to be on the WBCCI/WBAC/Airstream Club website but was taken off for unknown reasons. I would suggest checking into the Airstream Parks facebook page for information. We've stayed at five Airstream only parks. Each park has its own personality but we've never encountered any snobbery or felt unwelcome. The parks are a wonderful way to meet other Airstreamers and make new friends.
