Age question

I was wondering, at what age do you think it is time to not Airstream anymore? Just curious about what people think of this topic. I think Airstreams attract a younger crowd as well as an older group of travelers. This question is addressed to the older group.

When I cannot hookup the trailer and do not feel comfortable towing.

Probably a combination of physical and mental.

When it becomes more work than enjoyment.

When it becomes difficult to handle the tasks involved with the hobby.

When your mind, body or emotional make up changes.

Changes are not bad, to everything there is a season.

Additionally if one of you is deteriorating and the other is strong enough to take up the slack many couples continue for a while.

Too old to drive? Some would say when the ability to drive is gone, its time.
I say, don't let'em put you down without a fight. You have options-

1. Find a younger girl friend to drive you around.
2. Hide. Go on a camping trip and don't come back.
3. Fake a doctors order that says you are competent to drive.

Hi

This is very specific to an individual. Some folks stay in pretty good shape into their nineties. Others have significant levels of impairment in their sixties. There's almost no way to make a general statement about how old is to old.

Now factor in the range of things folks use their RV's for. Weekend trips in a van are a very different thing than hitching up the trailer to head to Alaska for nine months. Solo to Alaska is different than "the four of us" to Alaska (unless three are dogs ... ).

One issue is that, if things have advanced a bit, you may not be the best at evaluating what the answer actually is. I would suggest caution in working this sort of thing out.

Yes, there are a lot more layers to this. Medical history ( how many heart attacks , how many strokes ....) would also play into the evaluation.

Lots of variables.

I raced cars for many years. At age 65, after 20 some years racing, I realized I had reached the zenith of my racing capability. At that point, I decided to use my existing capabilities to pursue things I could do for another 10 to 15 years (like fly fishing and Airstreaming). No regrets 5 years into this. I hope I can be that rationale when it is time to give up trailering. If not, I am sure my DW will bash me on the head to change my mind...

Use the Search feature for a recent thread “How old are you?” Interesting data that sheds general light on the general question. Spoiler: only 4% of the 200+ respondents were in their 80’s.

Here you go. That's the kind of thread I enjoy. Some real "wise-acres" hang around this here website.

I think we will all know when it's time to quit and it will be different for each and every person. There isn't any one age for everyone.

Clearly, the time to throw in the towel is 35 years, 2 months, 3 weeks, and four days.
