5 Favorite Songs

Taking a page from Don Imus, list five of your favorite songs.
Not necessarily my five favorites, but I will start with 5 of my favorites:

5. Lonesome Town-Ricky Nelson
4. On the Road Again-Willie Nelson
3. The Letter-The Box Tops
2. Brown-Eyed Girl-Van Morrison
1. In The Mood-Glenn Miller Band

We could have quite playlist before we're done-- And maybe bring back some memories or make new ones.

This'll work for this week:

1] Time Changes Everything, Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys, 1946

2] Au Fond Du Temple Saint, Bizet; Bjoerling & Merrill, 1959

3] Barcarolle, Offenbach; Garanca & Netrebko, 2009

4] Everyday I Have the Blues, Memphis Slim; Basie & Williams, 1955

5] Dein ist mein Ganzes Herz, Lehar; Wunderlich, 1962

Wandering around Youtube reminds me of old favorites (like these), and some references lead me to new finds. (the recording dates are approximate in some instances).

5 Favorite Songs

My five favorites . . . tunes that are in the CD tray of each of my tow vehicles:
  • Nuclear Whales -- Casba Shuffle -- their floor show is exceptionally memorable and it is so hard to believe that all of the musical voices are saxophones:

  • Paul Revere and the Raiders -- Me and My SS 396 -- originally recorded for a Chevrolet advertisement for the Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 radio advertisements along with Corvair Baby -- I was introduced to these two songs when my father gave me one of the 45 RPM records that the Chevrolet agency where he worked had used for their radio advertisements. This has always been my favorite of the two.
  • The Andrews Sisters -- Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree -- my mother favored the 1940s hits, and this was one of her favorites, and it has become one of mine.

  • The Andrews Sister -- Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy -- Always enjoy the brigh up-tempo melody -- and it seems that the older that I get the more I like the Andrews Sisters hits.

  • Bay City Rollers -- Saturday Night -- I remember this as a weekend regular from both WLS the Big 89, WCIL FM when I was in high school and college . . .

As my friends often remind me, my taste in music is a little bit more than eclectic. . . .
