T handle on rear hatch 1968 Safari

The T handle on my rear hatch is stuck in the locked position. Does anyone know how to either remove the lock cylinder or remove the entire handle?

I would like to know as well. My 71 Overlander is locked with the door shut and can't get to the battery/plumbing area. Any help on this would be great, I'm trying to get in there this afternoon.

Storage Door in locked position w/ no key 68 Tradewind

Well I got it open with a big crescent wrench set to the outside with of t handle. Now I have to replace locking T handle unit. Anybody know if there is a replacement for the original unit on a 1968 24 Tradewind? Thanks, Big Rich

I used the same method on my 1968 safari

Vintage trailer supply has one that I'm trying to make work. It has a mounting plate on the outside with two screw holes, I'm thinking of drilling two holes through both panels to mount them, but it could still use some support on the inner side.Or I may drill out the mounting plate and use sheetmetal screws or machine screws with nuts on the inside.

Thanks for sharing your info

Yep, that looks like it will work . I looked at a bunch on the internet and could not find one with 1 1/2" square shaft. as far as backing for screws, I am thinking pop rivets or wood inside the door. Now,I got to figure out how to get the
t-handle off the door as it is attached to the outside skin. I recon, removing the inside skin, then attaching the handle. My door is pretty corroded. Maybe some heat on the corner screws. I will post update after I figure it out.
Thanks again, Big Rich

removing t handle

I drilled out the collar at the bottom of the handle and the rest fell out. I was going to seperate the panels but they are welded at the corners.
