Storage hatch height on 27FB?

Does anyone know, offhand, what the vertical height is of the front storage hatch opening on the 2011 7FB? I am trying to pick a charcoal grill by remote control, and want to be sure the one I go with will fit into that compartment under the front bed.

I am liking the stainless keg charcoal grill thing, and the rectangular one of similar design from Weber. But it's gotta fit.

I've tried searches here, and the Airstream brochures, no luck.

We'll be moving it a little closer in September, but not enough make any difference. Different airports, that's all.

I just read the reviews on the Keg-o-que and the weber go anywhere, and have already made up my mind....so I guess the height question is no longer all that important.

The little Weber Go Anywhere charcoal one, works for me.


I think I have rattled all the options around and this one works for us. Size, price, and not gas. Got a lid so it works in the wind and rain, and I think having a charcoal grill and an electric skillet should cover us for most outside cooking. This one has several air vents, which I like. Of course, all native Texans consider themselves to be past masters at barbeque and poker....among other things.

I don't want to deal with little propane bottles and I like the charcoal taste, too. I got nothing against the gas grills ( and they are grills, not bbq's) but there's a different flavor when cooking juices and fat fall on a burning briquet than there is when they drip on a hot metal plate over a burner.

Did you see that little Chinese thing about the size of a phone book that is a self contained grill? There's some pretty fancy stuff out there.

My BIL gave me a propane grill that can be attached to AS bottles that he used with is SOB before they sold it. We shall see. It has a very short hose which means i would be cooking up near the tongue of the AS which isn't ideal. I guess I could always carry around one of the #15 bottles from home because I have an extra one. I bought some charcoal to do hot dogs and marshmallows on the trip to the coast but the wind at the coast and the heat inland precluded any charcoaling... So im saving it for cooler weather.

well, looking at that little Weber, it appears that the lid has some hanging t'ingums on it, so it will hang on the edge and could be used as a little wind break. Not sure how it will work.

Hey, you could replace the hose with a longer one. I bet Best Buy or someone would sell you twenty feet of hose and a couple small hose clamps.

I had thought about longer hose but was wondering about the safety of running a 25 foot lp hose through a campground....

Gringo-Under the bed on my 07 27FB the height is 16 inches in the center area. Two inches less in the ones with drawers.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't even considered raising the bed to put the outside grill in that way. I was thinking I was limited to the dimension of the open hatch in the front. The little grill I am interested in will fit either way, I think.
