Keys for outside compartment doors

I needed a Key for my door i ended up taken the trailer to a lock smith he removed the lock all together cleaned it and cut a key worked perfectly, he literally looked at the lock and hand cut the key.

find a better lock smith A guy that's older and has been doing it a while i would try a local guy not a commercial lock smith

I face this same problem. I'm thinking of just having a locksmith deal with it. I have keys to every locker except the fresh-water fill, the PO (who owned it for 5 years) said "I just never stayed anywhere that didn't have water hookups."

I have the extra complication that some yutz at the factory put the ID plate on such that the bottom edge of it bows outward over the top edge of the lock mechanism, so if that lock is ever to be changed I'll have to either snip an little arc out of the bottom of that tag or remove and replace it.

I had to take our 64 Safari down to the lock doctor to hand make the side access panel key. He found the blank and hand filed a new key. It took him 20 minutes and 10 dollars for 2 keys.

That settles it! After I have the A/C checked and the Fan-tastic re-sealed (who in their right mind would use silicone? (as in fish tank silicone)) I'll bring her to a locksmith... why toss good money after bad. Now, why did I get an older AS... was it to save money? I thought so. Now I think it was fate guiding me to meet cool people, because I just see more that I have to fix!

Update... While I was trying to locate a locksmith with easy access (I live in the sticks so it is cheaper if I go to them.) I ordered a "beginners" lock picking kit from the web. I figured the cam locks on the panel doors couldn't have more than 3 or 4 barrels, should be easy to pick. $28 later and about 3 minutes of labor and maybe 2 hours of research... water hatch is opened and lock is replaced with a lock keyed the same as the battery door. DIY!!!

Captmatt, I love the DIY fix. I think that is why you got an older AS. You can DIY.

With a bit of patience and a good grinder I should have all the hatches keyed alike. Get a lock pick tool kit, just don't walk around at night with it on you...

I may be wrong, but I believe Airstream still sells the old keys.
