Help! Lost a hatch cover!
My new (old) Airstream International Ambassador 29-foot 1972 came home in all its glory, but sadly had shed a hatch cover on the way.
I retraced my driving route but could not find it. I have no idea how I am going to replace that finely crafted piece of aluminum, so I hope you can help me!
Thanks, Bob

Airstream salvage yards are the most economical answer.

And before you tow the trailer again, I suggest you re-rivet the battery compartment door on. They have a history of failing, and when they do you also loose the battery, and it's wiring. They are even harder to replace than the hatch cover.

Desert air is there any chance you might have a water heater access door for a 67 over lander 27?

For future reference to those who lose a door
I found it easier and way cheaper, to make one.
I lost my refer access door. The one company who made them stopped doing so because the doors often did not fit.
I made one, and it looked great. $
I later found one off of a junker, and installed it with hinges. $$$
My next thought would have been to try Jackson, or a metal shop $$$$$

desertair27 do you have a water heater access door for a '67 Overlander by chance? Disregard the post above. I missed the edit window of 30 minutes.

Unfortunately no. The water heater was removed in an aborted rear bath floor repair when I bought it. The access door was missing. I'll post a picture in a couple hours.

help I lost my rear compartment door too!
I lost the entire back panel that covers the battery and piping on my 1968 Land Yacht and also has the license plate mounted on it. It came off somewhere between Cambridge Mass and Saco ME on Friday May 29 2015. Please contact me is you found it, have one or know where I could get one made. I am so disappointed.

Liisa,
The rear baggage door on the '68 is relatively easy to make. VTS has the extrusions for the door and all of the hardware (handle, bulb seal, cam-lock); you would need a piece of 2024 aluminum for the panels. All-in it should cost you about $150.
I've rebuilt mine and replaced the seals. It's a few hour project to do.

I've made some compartment doors with the VTS extrusion, they turned out good but it wasn't all that easy to make the mitered cuts. I have a used rear door and I know Silver Trailer supply has doors from time to time. Just make sure you take good measurements because there are some different sizes,I found this out the hard way.

Are there any threads showing how to make a replacement compartment door with the VTS materials? I need to make three and I'm stumped.
Thanks!
