factory hole under license plate.. what is it?

I have a 68 Airstream 28 ft,. there is a factory hole with a brass screen under the license plate.. it has a tube that goes through the body into the storage copartment,, what the heck is this for? it seems to be some kind of vent, but I am not at all sure what it would vent. Hope someone knows.. thanks, Richard in Texas

That is a vent for the battery.

Thanks for posting that question Dixie722. I have the same hole and tube on my Safari which was a complete mystery to me. Now thanks to Overlander63 we know what it is. I am surprised a small vent like that would be adequate.
