Curious about storage compartment

Can someone explain what this is or was?

I don't see this storage on other 73 models.
Is it something the PO did?

It's between the furnace and the Univolt and I can't help but wonder if it used to be something else?

It almost looks like a pass through for firewood because thre is a sliding door on the inside.

Thanks in advance for clues provided.

That's where the milkman would deliver the milk to.

Or could have been the food chute for the prisoner that was being held in there.

Never saw anything like it. It was ventilated for a reason. Doggie kennel, generator, or time out for smaller household members?

Bet it was for a cat or dog, maybe ventilated so you could hear when they wanted to come in. Good place to stick the kitty box too, odors go outdoors.

It looks like it's made of galvanized steel, IE, like some furnace ducting - So, it's been added by a PO...

I like the 'kitty litter box' storage idea, clever!
