Can you travel with the windows cracked open? I have a dog and I can't travel with him in the truck because of a child with asthma.

I have forgotten to latch a window before traveling and it acted like a wing of a plane and opened all the way at speed. It was easy to spot in the mirrors. I read on the forums that you could open a roof vent slightly (lifting the rear only) to allow air in the trailer.

That being said, I would never travel with any of my dogs in the trailer. I think it would be too traumatic an experience for them.

If you're good with baling wire I wouldn't be afraid to wire the window an inch or two open. I'd wrap the wire through the lock opening on the bottom of the window frame and then wrap it around the corresponding latch on the body frame (do this on the front AND back of the window, obviously). Otherwise, I imagine you could fab up a few channel iron latches/spacers that would hold the window open rigidly and prevent flapping. Erik

Does the dog have to stay outside the trailer due to the asthma when you are parked and camping? Should the dog be in the trailer ever?

Some people have talked about pets getting carsick traveling back in the trailer. Do you have a crate if you put the dog back there? That might help a test to see if it can go without medication. We have a puppy that gets carsick traveling in the car. At 20 pounds our vet recommended a 25mg over the counter Dramamine an hour before travel (lasts 8 hours). We don't notice any drowsiness. The puppy is now 30 pounds and the 25mg is still very effective.

You can open the rear part "only" of the front and rear vent.

That provides fresh air, and, keeps the inside temperature cooler.

When the trailer is not in motion, the inside temperature will rapidly increase, just as it does in your tow vehicle.

Leaving a window partly cracked, in your case, is not a good idea. Should a good gust of wind hit that window, it would be possible to shatter that glass.

Remember, if your going 60 and a truck is coming at you at 60, then the instant wind speed becomes 120 MPH. Far more than enough to raise devil with an open window, even a partially open window.

Just remember to take the dog out of the trailer as soon as you stop.
